Swimming Pool Jello Dessert for Kids!

My boys have been in the pool a lot this summer. They have been taking private swim lessons so I am trying to keep them swimming as much as possible. It’s hard enough going to the pool with 3 little boys and the last thing I want to do is worry about keeping all of them out of the deep end!

We went to our friends pool yesterday and we came up with this Pool Jell-O Dessert to bring for all the kids. This was so fun to make and it’s a great dessert to get the kids to help with! It’s very easy to make and we used candy we had on hand. I am trying to get rid of it! My boys really loved this and the other kids did as well!

Pool Dessert…

4 Boxes of Blue Berry Jell-O
Mini Vanilla Wafers
Pretzel Sticks & 1 Large Pretzel Stick
Mini Chocolate Chips
White & Red Betty Crocker Cookie Frosting
Candy (we used…Starburst, Tootsie Rolls, White Candy Sticks, Sour Punch Straws)

We made our Jello according to package directions and poured it in a large bowl to set. We glued our people together with white cookie frosting. Place a pretzel stick with a little bit of frosting on top of the another stick to make the arms. Squeeze frosting on the back of the mini vanilla wafer and place the pretzel stick on that. Let them dry for about 10 minutes. Shape the floaties, balls, and bathing suits with tootles rolls. Shape the hair as well. You can cut designs with kitchen scissors. Attach by pressing on the top of the mini vanilla wafer or secure with cookie frosting. Make the face by squeezing white cookie frosting on for the eyes and press 2 mini chocolate chips on for the pupils. Use red cookie frosting to make the mouth.

We glued white candy sticks together with white cookie frosting to make the ladder. We broke a large pretzel stick in half and flattened a vanilla Tootsie Roll to make the diving board. We pressed pretzel sticks under the flattened vanilla Tootsie Roll to make sure it didn’t fall. Secure with white frosting. Place all of the suits and floaties on the people before you put them in the pan except the tube. Take a Starburst candy and pull it out just a bit. You will then wrap this around the bottom of the stick people and press on the bottom of a 9×13 pan. This will make the people stand up and it sticks well. Do the same for the diving board. You can just rest the ladder on the side.

Take the bowl of Blue Berry Jell-O and spoon it into the pan around the people. Then wrap the tube around and press together in the back. We used Sour Punch Straws for pool noodles (you could use Twizzlers) and round candies for balls. We also flattened out a orange Tootsie Roll for the big float and placed a regular orange Tootsie Roll for the pillow. Here is a close up of the girl and boy….

If you make this ahead of time make sure that you leave the people and candy toys separate from the jello. If this is left out for a long time and in the heat…it will melt the candy.
