This May Be Your New Favorite Cat Breed
When a cat chooses you to be theirs, it’s easy to form a bond with a little furball with claws that threaten to shred your arm at any minute. And once you’ve fallen in love, it’s all over for you. As Ernest Hemingway famously said, “One cat just leads to another.”
The International Cat Association recognizes 71 standardized breeds, while the Cat Fanciers’ Association recognizes 44. I’m not sure why the big difference in numbers, so if you know I would be thrilled if you’d tell me in the comments.
There are short-hairs and long-hairs, hairless, spotted, and speckled. Instagram thought they’d seen them all and then this happened. But, this cat? It’s in a class all its own.

The Curly Haired “Sheep Cat” aka Selkirk Rex
Known for its shaggy hair, it looks like a cross between a cat and a sheep. Honestly, when I first saw it I thought the breed looks like it could be a Muppet on Sesame Street. I mean, look at that hair!
What Cat Fancier Association Says About This Cat Breed.
1. Its whiskers are brittle and may break when they get long.
2. It’s a large, heavy-boned cat.
3. Some are curly at birth, and some are not.
4. They are known to be patient, loving, and tolerant.
5. The “sheep cat” has 2 coat lengths: short and long.

Omg these guys are so cute . We have 7 cats 1 tortoise shell colored main coon named corduroy, all black main coon called MK , savannha f5 a blue named bugsy, a ragdoll all black named bambi, black and white tuxedo named RAT , a black and Brown calico named luna and a black and white tuxedo named bella . We are officially done with cats but after seeing these cuties I may have to get one . Hmmm guess we can always move hubby out for extra space lol
I just got my 6th cat a few months ago. I needed an added therapy cat when my mom passed away. I just needed a baby kitten to nurture. He’s a long haired rag doll mix named Cotton… well Leo Cottontail is his full name . My other baes are Fifi (black and white spotted dsh), Wheezie (blue eyed long haired tuxedo), Chloe (tabby dsh), Stella (tan, black, grey and white dsh), and Lulu (grey and white dsh). The Selkirk Rex are absolutely adorable!
Oh my gawd I want one!! We have a beautiful, sweet tempered, 8 month old Scottish Fold named Minnie. I’m getting kitten fever again- never heard of the Selkirk Rex – but I think I want one, like, now!
