Do Cream Cheese Mints need to be Refrigerated?

Yes.  We store these Mints in a airtight container in the refrigerator. Look at the expiration date on the cream cheese to see how long they will last. These mints freeze beautifully in an airtight container.

Tips for Peppermint Patty Recipe:

  • You can dip the patties in melted milk, dark or white chocolate if you prefer. However, we like these just the way they are.
  • We like to use gel food coloring for this recipe. This keeps the dough from getting too sticky.
  • Add sprinkles to the mix for a festive look!

  1. I haven’t made these yet, tho plan to make some this week for friends and family. I have a
question before I make these. When I give them away, do I need to say they need to be refrigerated or can they be left out.

    1. Hi Paulette. These peppermint patties can be left out after the initial refrigeration.

  2. My dough was an icing consistency. I could not cut it or put fork marks in it as it was super soft and sticky. Any idea what went wrong?

    1. Hi Ronda. Yes, these can be frozen for up to one month in an airtight container.

  3. Judy Zbierajewski

How did you do the ones that looked like they have specks of red and green? (Pictured above the recipe)

    1. Hi Judy. Those are Christmas nonpareils that you see. They can be added as well.

  4. Is there a different measurement (like cups) for the powdered sugar? I buy in bulk and store in airtight jar so I don’t have a way of measuring it out in pounds.

We make these for Valentines Day also using red coloring for some and leaving some with no coloring . We use a couple of drops of cinnamon extract then crush some cinnamon hearts and sprinkle on them and mix in the white dough. They look very
pretty ! Also, for Hallowe’en , we do orange and black coloring and use a drop of orange essence and the black gets a drop of licorice
flavoring.. Thankyou for printing the recipe , I am sure everyone will love it. Merry Christmas to you and your three sons

I’ve made mints before for a wedding, so much fun! This would be neat to make for Christmas, or any holiday

  7. I used to make these candies as a kid and did not remember how…now I know again! Thank you! we used all types of flavors in addition to peppermint; orange, lemon, almond….whatever we had! (not all at once, of course! ) they were yummy

  8. I remember that I was not eating peppermint patties, but the last month at a friend’s house when I tried I liked it and that’s the only reason today I am here in the quest of its recipe.
