I’m Not Ignoring You, I Have Anxiety

If you know someone who you keep trying to make plans with and all they do is give excuses and cancel last minute, they might have anxiety. It is not that they don’t want to spend time with you, quite the contrary. I am sure they would love to go out and have fun with you. They are probably dealing with an anxiety attack triggered by something.

If they simply tell you they have anxiety, you might look at them differently and stray away from them. It becomes easier to give lame made up excuses then, to tell the truth.

Most of the time, the anxiety attacks they are facing has nothing to do with you or your friendship.

Be A Friend

Eventually, your friend might tell you they suffer from anxiety and panic attacks. Be understanding, be patient, and most importantly, be kind.

While you may not understand what they are going through, don’t give up on your friendship quite yet. Take the time to listen to them explain what is happening and how it makes them feel.

Share with them how you value your friendship, and how nothing will change it. Your friendship is what they need the most as it is not easy sharing about your struggles, especially about anxiety.

This powerful talk will help your friend in more ways than you will ever know. However, it is important to let them know you understand and respect them. If you do not, they may go off thinking that they have ruined your friendship. This is once again the anxiety working in them.

If you have anxiety, know you are not alone. Many suffer from it. There is help out there. Be strong and involve the people closest to you. They will be a beckon of light and hope and will help you overcome these feelings.

If you know someone with anxiety, be patient. They are not ignoring you, they have anxiety. They want to spend time with you, they just have an internal struggle going on at the time. It has nothing to do with you, but you can help them no matter what. Listen to them and be there when you can.
