This Valentine’s Day we’re making red velvet bourbon cake balls for a fun adults-only treat. This is perfect to make for your significant or for a fun at home date night!

Red Velvet Bourbon Cake Balls

Red Velvet Bourbon Cake Balls

Makes 48 cake balls

Ingredients

  • 1 box red velvet cake mix
  • eggs
  • oil water
  • 1 container of chocolate fudge frosting
  • 2 tbsp of spiced bourbon whisky
  • 2 bags of Ghirardelli white chocolate melting chips
  • 1 package of red candy melts
  • 1 container of Wilton confetti hearts
  • 1 disposable piping bag
  • 1 cookie sheet fitted with wax or parchment paper
  • double boiler
  • cupcake pan with cupcake liners
Red Velvet Bourbon Cake Balls

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees
  2. Prepare cake batter like directed on the back of the box
  3. Mix in the 2 tbsp of the spiced bourbon whisky
  4. Scoop batter into cupcake liners and bake for 21 minutes
  5. Once cupcakes have been baked and cooled, peel bake the cupcake liners
  6. Doing only a few cupcakes at a time, crumble the cupcakes using your hand into a large mixing bowl
  7. Crumble only about 10 cupcakes
  8. Add in about 3 tablespoons of the chocolate frosting
  9. Using your hand, or a wooden spoon, mix until combined and you have a dough like texture
  10. Using a small ice cream scoop or a tablespoon, scoop some of the mixture into your hands and roll into a ball
  11. Place ball onto the cookie sheet
  12. Once all of the dough has been rolled into balls place into the fridge for 20 minutes or freezer for 10 minutes
  13. Using a double boiler, melt the chocolate until smooth
  14. Once your cake balls have hardened, using a fork and butter knife, dip a cake ball into the melted chocolate and fully coat it.
  15. Use the fork to scoop up the cake ball and lightly tap the edge of the pot
  16. Place cake ball onto the cookie sheet
  17. Repeat previous steps until all cake balls have been rolled and dipped
  18. Set aside for the chocolate to completely cool
  19. Wash out your double boiler and dry very well
  20. Pour about 1/4 of the red candy melt into the double boiler
  21. Wait a few minutes and then mix with a spatula until smooth
  22. Pour melted candy melts into the piping bag
  23. Cut the tip off of the piping bag and drizzle the candy melt over the cake balls
  24. Place a pink confetti sprinkle heart onto the middle of the cake ball
  25. Let sit for 15 minutes before enjoying your Red Velvet Bourbon Cake Balls!
