This white cheddar mac and cheese is a truly fabulous recipe. With the creamy cheese sauce that has 3 kinds of cheese and sour cream, this dinner or side dish is amazing. Made from scratch, this is a truly simple recipe that taste like it took hours.

Ingredients You Will Need

  • Elbow macaroni
  • Butter
  • Flour
  • Milk
  • Salt
  • Ground white pepper
  • Sharp white cheddar
  • Gruyere cheese
  • Cream cheese
  • Sour cream

How to Make White Cheddar Mac and Cheese

Prepare a 9*13 baking dish with cooking spray and preheat the oven to 350 degrees.
Cook the noodles according to the package.

Meanwhile, melt the butter over medium heat in a saucepan.

Add in the flour and whisk it until it is smooth.

Whisking continuously, slowly add the milk. Season the milk and flour and bring it to a boil, until it thickens enough to coat the back of a spoon.

Add the cheese and sour cream and stir it until it is melted in and then remove it from the heat.

Mix in the noodles into the cheese sauce and pour it unto the baking dish and then top with additional white cheddar cheese.

Bake for 15 minutes, until the cheese is melted and bubbly.

Ingredients
  

  • 16 ounce elbow macaroni
  • ¼ cup butter
  • ¼ cup flour
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon ground white pepper
  • 1 cup sharp white cheddar shredded (plus ½ cup for topping if desired)
  • ½ cup gruyere cheese shredded
  • 8 ounce cream cheese
  • ¼ cup sour cream

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Prepare a 9 x 13 baking dish with nonstick cooking spray.
  • Cook noodles according to package directions until al dente.
  • In a large saucepan, melt the butter over medium-low heat. Add the flour and whisk until smooth. Slowly add milk, whisking continuously. Add the seasonings and bring to a boil, stirring constantly, until the mixture thickens enough that it coats the back of a spoon.
  • Add the cheeses and sour cream, stirring until melted. Immediately remove from heat.
  • Mix together the sauce and noodles. Transfer to the baking dish and top with additional white cheddar cheese if desired.
  • Bake for 15 minutes or until the cheese has melted and the edges bubble.
