Scientists and doctors are urging parents to save their child’s baby teeth. The amount of stem cells present in their teeth could possibly save their lives in the future.
Stem cells are widely used to treat diseases like Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s and bone cancers, such a leukemia. The stem cells in your child’s baby teeth could be used to create bone marrow that’s much more likely to be accepted by your child’s body . You have to have a compatible bone marrow donor to treat these and other medical conditions. In most cases you have to wait a long period of time to find a donor for treatment that is a bone marrow match. Having the teeth avoids the wait. Any teeth that are pulled, including wisdom, are beneficial for banking.
Many parents choose to save their children’s baby teeth as mementos. Some choose to just toss them in the trash. I am one of those that wanted to keep my boys teeth for keepsakes and have these adorable containers to store them. Then there are others that save the teeth for stem cell use, which I definitely would have considered if I had known about it back then. Allow a dentist to handle the teeth if you are banking the tooth for stem cells.
We would love to hear from those of you that have decided to save your child’s teeth.

I have all of my sons baby teeth
I kept my 3 son’s teeth … Not sure which ones belongs to which kid … Not sure why I kept them, as they are all in their 30’s right now ….
I have my first child’s teeth from the 70’s. Would they be still viable?
I saved both my Kid’s Baby Teeth.
Who would’ve known they were that Valueable in their years to come?
I kept all my son’s baby teeth, in his baby book. 🙂 if this is true, i’m glad i did.
I HAVE 3 Daughters, I have every single tooth of theirs. They now have children and they are grateful that I did this. Very interesting on what they are doing with this.
I have my sons baby teeth. In a zip lock bag. They are 20 yrs old plus. I’m not sure if they would be any good.
I have saved my children’s teeth..
Keeping baby teeth is creepy as hell.
No it’s not. Gosh, we had much fun, when a tooth came out. I have all my child’s teeth, except 2, taken out but a dentist, to prepare for braces.
I have had my children’s teeth for over 36 years, i just couldn’t bring myself to throw them away. My daughter get is a type 1 diabetic, wouldn’t it be wonderful if they discovered the baby teeth could help her!!
I saved all of my twins teeth, and a few of my win. Now they gave greater importance.
I’ve saved every baby teeth from both of my children 1989 and 1990 plus I have all my wisdom teeth. Never knew they might come handy in are future. I even have both childs belly button cord.
Yes I still have my sons and he is 27.
Since 1990 I have saved their teeth. The adult now children think they are gross. Saving their lives later( hopefully not necessary) will change their minds!
I have both of my girl’s baby teeth in their baby books. They both have their own kids now but didn’t save teeth.
I have kept my grand daughters teeth after she had ti have quite a few removed
My son is 34 I have his and his brothers baby teeth, he thinks I am totally weird, lol.!
Agree completely. My father queried why we would bother brushing our children’s teeth as they “ will only fall out”. We were appalled and this from parents who wore dentures. Even our teeth could have been better if our parents were more enlightened about baby teeth as templates for permanent teeth, brushing and minimising sticky sugary foods and promoting a healthy diet.
Not entirely blaming them, they would have been exposed to their parents fatalistic attitudes regarding teeth.
I kept my daughter’s baby teeth. She’s 38 years old. Has it been too long? She was recently diagnosed with cancer.
Sorry to say yes it is not only too long but they need to be carefully and specially preserved for the stem cells to be harvested and used.
I always saved them but with 4 children I couldn’t tell you which tooth was who’s. Lol
I have kept all out children’s teeth…generally because I’ve found them in my dressing gown from a night of toothfairying and couldn’t part with them, so maybe I’ve done the right thing in the end!
It’s a great idea but the cost is prohibitive for the average person/family.
I kept every single tooth he lost on his own. About 7 and he is 12. Now I really appreciate keeping them but hopefully never have to use them.
I have kept all of my sons teeth also!!!
