The Ingredients
Here’s what you’ll need to make the rice (the exact measurements and full recipe instructions are below in the easy to print recipe card):
- Instant rice – please be aware that this recipe only works with instant white rice. Other types of rice or even instant brown rice may not work well with this recipe.
- Chicken broth or stock
- Parmesan cheese – you can grate fresh Parmesan or use the already grated kind from the can.
- Cream of chicken soup – you can use a regular soup or the light version.
- Pepper

How to Make 5 Ingredient Souper Rice
- In a large saucepan, whisk together the cream of chicken soup and chicken broth and heat over medium-high heat, stirring often, until it begins to simmer. Stir in the uncooked instant rice, Parmesan cheese, and pepper. Cover the pan with a lid and remove from heat.

- Let the pan stand covered for 5-8 minutes, until rice is tender and most of the liquid is absorbed. Serve hot.

How to Store the Leftovers
Keep the leftover rice in an airtight food storage container in the refrigerator for up to three days. Reheat individual portions in the microwave.

How do you make it with regular rice? Thx!
My favorite last minute get the meal on the table side dish. Always a winner!
Thanks Kathy!
This one of my favorite recipes to make. I recently came across Campbell’s Cream of Buffalo Chicken so I tried it out and added chopped broccoli. It’s spicy but it the spot on a cold night!
Thank you MereK!
I add chicken and it makes a delicious guick meal. Thanks for the recipe
So yummy we have made it twice and love it
Thank you April!
So yummy
Thanks Danielle!
When the “souper rice” recipes first came out a few decades ago, I would make them with whichever “cream of” soup my son requested. Now that I cook solely for myself, I like to use cream of onion–I dislike cream of bird–and I add a large can of white meat chicken to it when it needs to stand for the rice to be fully cooked. Makes for a nice meaty meal, with plenty of leftovers for a few more!
Thanks Joyce!
Tastes wonderful! My instant rice was not fully cooked by 8 mins. So I brought it back to a boil and repeated process. Let it sit removed from heat for 5 extra minutes and that did the trick!
Thank you Maddy!
Lovely recipe!! I personally need more seasonings in my dish, so I added additional seasonings. This recipe was wonderful and easy, especially being a toddler mom. I used “regular” rice, cooked it a bit first, let my broth/soup mixture reduce slightly, and then added the rice as to not make it mushy. Turned out great.
Thank you Libby!
Oh, I cannot wait to make this! Ingredients on the grocery list now!
Do you think this could be made in the rice cooker?
Hi Emily. I’ve never tried it, but I think it would work. May have to keep an eye on it.
So easy to make!!! I added frozen mixed veggies and canned chicken for an easy dinner
Thanks Gretchen!
Five stars, ny family loves this dish.
Thank you Loretta!
This recipe can be made using any rice . My mom taught me how to make this when I was younger only we put tuna and peas in it and used cream of mushroom soup instead of the cream of chicken.
It’s a super easy super quick dinner. Especially if you need/want to feed a bunch of people and leave them feeling satisfied quickly .
Thanks Carlene!
That’s how I make rice! Absolutely delicious!

Glad to hear that Jennifer. Thanks!
YUM! Rice is one of the few things I can eat, so I love this!
Glad to hear that. Thanks Jan!
Love this recipe!! Hubby & I enjoyed it immensely. The cheese added that extra touch. Would taste fabulous with mushrooms & peas mixed in…yummy!!!
Thanks Gretchen!
Since we all like rice, this is an excellent dish to go with baked chicken-thank you for giving us this recipe
Just a thought. I wonder if this would work with pasta instead of rice. Maybe cook past first?
I think it would. Hubby doesn’t care for rice. Maybe egg noodles?
