  • Toss the wedges into the flour. Next, dredge them in the beaten egg. And finally, roll them in the sugar and crushed graham cracker mixture.

What Are The Best Apples To Use?

For this recipe, we used Gala apples. They’re sweet, they smell great, and the texture makes them ideal for this recipe and lots of others. Gala apples are truly an all-purpose apple.

The best apples to use for this recipe really depends on your taste though. If you are looking for a tart taste, then Granny Smith, McIntosh or Pink Lady are what you want. If you are looking for a sweet apple flavor, then Golden or Red Delicious, Gala, Fuji, or Honeycrisp work well.

Air Fryer Apple Fries

It's hard to think of many things more perfect for autumn weather than apples. Unless it's these apple fries made in the Air Fryer with caramel dipping sauce.

Ingredients
  

Apple Fries Ingredients:

  • 3 large Gala apples
  • 1 cup flour
  • 3 large eggs beaten
  • 1 cup graham cracker crumbs
  • 1/4 cup sugar

Caramel Dipping sauce Ingredients:

  • 1 container of caramel sauce

Instructions

Directions:

  • Preheat air fryer to 380 degrees.
  • Line a cookie sheet with parchment paper.
  • Prep the apples: peel, core, then cut the apples into 8 wedges.
  • Add the flour into a medium size bowl. Set aside.
  • Beat the eggs, pour into a shallow dish.
  • In a second shallow dish combine the crushed graham crackers and sugar. Stir to blend.
  • Line the flour bowl first, second put the beaten eggs, and crushed graham crackers, and sugar combination.
  • Begin by tossing each wedge of apple in the flour.
  • Dredge the floured apple pieces in the beaten eggs.
  • Third, roll the apple pieces in the sugar/crushed graham cracker mixture.
  • Put each prepared apple pieces on the prepped cookie sheet.
  • Coat the bottom of the air fryer basket with oil.
  • Do not overlap the apple pieces in the air fryer. Air fry the apples in batches. Spray the apple pieces with a light coat of oil. Air fry at 380 degrees for 5 minutes then turn the apple pieces over and for an additional 2 minutes.
  • Pour the caramel sauce into a serving bowl. Transfer the bowl to a microwave. Heat until the caramel sauce is warm and ready to serve with the apple fries.

    I would like to know what sprayer you use for your oil. I have tried a couple sprayers but they glop, there is no fine spray. I gave up with the air fry “fried” food. I do use it for other foods tho. Thanks..

    1. Love my avacado oil spray-one of the higher smoking point oils.   Just make sure you get just the spray oil and not propellants.

    Can you use gluten free flour in place of regular flour? Same question with gf grshdm crackers? Has anyone tried this?

    Dredge = very simple cooking technique: Dredging. There’s no need to overcomplicate it. The basic dredge definition is to lightly coat a food in a dry ingredient, such as flour, cornmeal, or breadcrumbs. That’s it! Often, you’ll dredge foods before frying to crisp and add golden color to whatever dry ingredient you used for dredging. Many recipes call for dredging in combination with dipping in a liquid (such as eggs or buttermilk) and then a seasoned coating. That is actually breading, more on that below. Dredging is just the part where you coat food in a dry ingredient, flour being the most common dredge used.

    Why would you add oil? I’m new to the air dryer but I thought the purpose was supposed to be an alternative to using oil…

    1. Air fryers can be used without any oil.. however they are designed to use LESS oil.. would rather just do a sprits of oil or dunk them and soak them in a pot of oil? The sprits of oil helps give it a more fried texture than without. Give It a try without though and see how it goes 🙂

      Food crisps up better with some oil. A tablespoon of oil added to give a thin coating is nothing like what they would absorb being fried in oil.

    These turned out perfect! I added cinnamon and sugar to the flour, vanilla extract to the eggs and cinnamon to the graham cracker mixture. So delicious! And I made my own caramel sauce with a can of sweetened condensed milk. Wonderful dessert.

    These were wonderful! I added 1/2 tsp. cinnamon to the sugar, graham cracker mixture. These will be a favorite with the my grandkids!

    1. You should just spritz the oil on them before putting in air fryer. Helps to get the crunch

    2. Sounds of it it looks like you dipped these twice before you put them in the air fryer, is that true

    3. So reading this, it’s as though the apples are supposed to be floured and dipped twice? Is that correct?
