This easy Apple Fritters recipe is the quickest and best way to make this old fashion treat. A warm, fresh donut with homemade glaze is one of my favorite things. A bit similar to the beloved funnel cake, but WAY better!

I really love baking with apples and adore anything apple fritter! You will also love our our popular Amish Apple Fritter Bread – it’s fantastic!

Apple Fritters

These homemade apple fritters are made right on the kitchen stove in a simple skillet and some oil. They are soft and sweet on the inside and crunchy on the outside.

Ingredients You Need

  • Apples. You’ll need two large apples and we prefer Granny Smith for these.
  • Flour. All purpose.
  • Sugar. To sweeten.
  • Baking Powder.
  • Salt.
  • Milk. Whichever kind of milk you like.
  • Cinnamon. For flavor.
  • Unsweetened Applesauce. For extra apple flavor.
  • Vegetable Oil. For frying.

Donut Glaze Ingredients

I just love a simple powdered sugar glaze! Three ingredients, made fast and it’s so easy. Plus, it can go on just about anything.

  • Powdered Sugar.
  • Milk.
  • Vanilla.

How To Make Apple Fritters

  1. Dry Ingredients. In a bowl, stir the dry ingredients.
  2. Add Wet Ingredients. Stir in the milk and applesauce next.
  3. Apples. Dice up your apples into small bites and fold them into the batter.
  4. Fry. Heat oil in the skillet to about 375 degrees. Then, drop the batter in 1/3 scoops for 2 minutes on each side. Let them cool on a rack while you make the glaze.
  5. Glaze. Stir the three glaze ingredients together and dip each fritter in. Let the excess drip and enjoy.

These are most certainly the best tasting when they are warm and fresh! Serve them in the morning with your cup of coffee or a cool glass of milk.

Can you Bake these Apple Fritters?

Yes you can, BUT I would not recommend baking. You will get the best results with frying this recipe.

Tips:

  • Heat – Use a thermometer to make sure the oil is at the correct temperature making sure the tip is not touching the bottom of the pan.
  • Fry – I fry in batched. Add in 3 fritters at a time. This will prevent crowding and helps with any undercooked issues.
  • Color – The darker the fritters the crisper the they’ll be.
  • Rest – Let your fritters rest on a wire rack after a minute on a paper towel. This will help keep them crisp.

So easy to make! And so delicious! I made these apple fritters dairy free & sugar free by using Swerve sugar substitutes and oat milk!

Nom! These are so delicious and so easy to make! We used to live by a Korean donut shop that made the best, crispiest apple fritters but it’s too far away. No other stores compare. My husband tasted one of these and said he won’t ever be missing that donut store again. I don’t think I’ll use milk in the glaze again as it stays kind of “wet”. Water and vanilla will allow the glaze to harden better. I also doubled the cinnamon..mixed some in the apples and added a little ginger. Lastly, I put leftovers on a plate, covered loosly with foil and left on the counter to gobble up the rest, the next morning..a little air kept them from getting soggy. So good

These apple fritters are so awesome and easy to make. I will definitely make again.
My only issue was, when I saved them in a air tight container they got soggy. They were completely cool when I put them in. Wondering if maybe I should freeze them a bit before putting in container.

    1. Thanks Lynn. Glad they came out great. We have had success freezing them so that may help.

    1. Hi Chris. You try them in batches in the air fryer. I would line with parchment paper and preheat to 400. Add the batter to allow for spreading and cook until golden brown or 5-6 minutes. Turn fritters and cook for another 1-2 minutes.

I made this recipe, they are delicious. But I did have a few issues with this recipe.

The dough is very wet. Maybe I should have relied on my baking experience and weighed everythingI could, but I didnt. I did add flour, I didnt measure it but added slowly and mixed til I felt I could work with the dough and it didnt resemble pancake batter.

These rise quite a bit. 1/3 cup got brown before it got done in the middle. And after adding flour the dough was still too sticky to flatten without sticking to everything. I did this. used a shaker and floured my left palm. spooned about 2 TBS of dough into my left palm. Shook flour over the top of the dough and formed into a patty a bit less than 1/2 inch thick.
Fried at 375 until dark brown, drained on a rack and dipped in glaze that I thinned a bit.

    Cooked thru, delicious.

  5. Made it. Loved them when they were first cooked. Next morning they weren’t so good. So I’m going to try frying them and not putting the icing on. Next morning I will try reheating them in my airfryer and then put icing on.

Very tasty!! Not very bumpy looking, so going to cut apples in larger pieces. Other than that, its a keeper!

I cut the recipe in half as it was for 2 people, which worked great! These apple fritters had so much apple flavor, and they were so fresh. My husband and I ate one for breakfast, then one for lunch. The glaze was a bit thick, so I thinned it out with an additional tablespoon of milk. I will make the fritters again, so yummy!
