Instead of making a Gingerbread House this year we decided to make this Away in the Manger Cookie House! This is so fun & easy to make! It’s also a great way to talk with your kids about the true meaning of Christmas!
John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.
Away in a Manger Cookie House
Graham Crackers
Tootsie Rolls
Caramel Bits
Coconut
Pretzel Sticks
Marshmallows
Chocolate Chips
White Candy Coating (Candiquik)
Start out by attaching the graham crackers together side by side using the white chocolate onto wax paper. Then stand up the pieces & attach the corners. Make the roof by attaching the tops together & then just place it on top. We also shaped a star out of a Tootsie Roll & pressed it on a pretzel stick. We placed it on top of the roof before the chocolate set.
To make Mary & Joseph we shaped Tootsie Rolls & Caramel Bits for the head. To soften the Tootsie Rolls you need to place them in the microwave for 8 seconds..then shape.
We broke a graham cracker in half to make the manger & used a vanilla Tootsie Roll for the body for baby Jesus. We used a caramel bit for the head.
To make the sheep we cut a regular marshmallow in half. Then pressed in pretzel stick halves into the cut side. We also cut a mini marshmallow in half for the head. We attached on chocolate chips for the face.
We used Tootsie Rolls & Caramel Bits to make the horse….
Here is a close up of the star…

My boys said that they can not bring themselves to eat God, but will eat the rest!:)

How adorable!! Pinning this!
Aw, that turned out so neat! Happy Christmastime:@)
LOL! I've never seen a Tootsie Roll Jesus before. We always put out a manger at Christmas when I was a kid. This would have been fun to make. I'm with your boys, that might be hard to bite into.
