These Mermaid Jello Shots will be such a fun addition to your next party. Layered with colorful coconut rum jello and topped with a homemade whipped cream. Add a mermaid tail and a seashell and you have an adorable adults-only treat.

Mermaid Jello Shots

In the warmer months of the year, I really love making jello shots. Often we have back yard BBQ’s and friend gatherings and they are just a fun treat to pull out for the grown-ups!

Plus, let me tell you how impressed your guests will be when you pull these out. They’re so cool looking you almost don’t want to even eat it.

How To Make Mermaid Jello Shots

The jello flavors we used here are grape, berry blue and lime. To intensify the bright mermaid colors we used food coloring to match each flavor.

The alcohol we’re using is coconut rum. It just has a fun pina colada, beachy flavor that matches perfect with our mermaid theme. Some other great alternatives would be blueberry, coconut or lime flavored vodka.

These Mermaid Jello Shots will be such a fun addition to your next party. Layered with colorful coconut rum jello and topped with a homemade whipped cream.

You’ll need to take your time layering each color of these shots with a layer of white in between.

The white layers take just 30 minutes to chill and the jello layers take 2 hours each. Make sure you make these the day before your party.

As much as I adore this homemade whipped cream (seriously, I could eat it with a spoon) you can cut a corner here and use store-bought. You can either skip coloring it all together and use the spray, or you can get the container and mix in colors that way.

No matter what, make sure you get the mermaid tails and seashells to top it!

Mermaid Jello Shots

Ingredients

Jello Ingredients:

  • 1 3 oz purple grape jello
  • Purple food coloring 2 drops
  • 1 3 oz berry blue jello
  • blue food coloring 2 drops
  • 1 3 oz lime green jello
  • Green food coloring 2 drops
  • 1/2 C Coconut Rum
  • 1 C boiling water per each jello package
  • 1/2 C cold water per each jello package

White layer Ingredients:

  • 1 can sweetened condensed milk
  • 2 envelopes Knox Unflavored gelatin
  • 1 C boiling water
  • 1/2 C cold water

Whipped Cream Ingredients:

  • 2 C heavy whipping cream
  • 1/2 C powder sugar
  • 2 tsp vanilla
  • Blue food coloring
  • 1 disposable piping bag with a s star piping tip
  • Blue Sprinkles
  • Wilton Mermaid tail cupcake topper
  • Wilton sea shell cupcake topper

Instructions

Jello layer directions:

  1. In a medium bowl, stir the purple/grape jello and boiling water until the jello dissolves.
  2. Add 2 tablespoons of Coconut rum and cold water.
  3. Stir to combine.
  4. Add 2 drops of purple food coloring in the bowl.
  5. This is for the 3rd (bottom) layer.
  6. Mix well.
  7. Divide this equally into the shot glasses.
  8. Place in the refrigerator to chill for 2 hours.
  9. In a second medium bowl, stir the berry blue jello and
  10. boiling water until the jello dissolves.
  11. Add 2 tablespoons of Coconut rum and cold water.
  12. Stir to combine.
  13. Add 2 drops of blue food coloring in the bowl.
  14. Mix well.
  15. Set aside.
  16. In a third medium bowl, stir the lime green jello and boiling water until the jello dissolves.
  17. Add 2 tablespoons of Coconut rum and cold water.
  18. Stir to combine.
  19. Add 2 drops of green coloring in the bowl.
  20. Mix well.
  21. Set aside.

White layer directions:

  1. In a separate bowl add the sweetened condensed milk with
  2. 1 cup of boiling water.
  3. In a small bowl sprinkle 2 envelopes of unflavored gelatin over 1/2 cup of cold water.
  4. Allow the unflavored gelatin to set for a few minutes.
  5. Add 1/2 cup of boiling water to dissolve the gelatin.
  6. Add this to the milk mixture.
  7. Stir to combine.
  8. Allow it to cool to room temperature.
  9. Building the rest of the Mermaid jello shot:
  10. Spoon some of this milk mixture over the bottom purple layer of jello. (1st layer)
  11. Refrigerate for 30 minutes.
  12. Add the 2nd layer of the jello. (Berry blue)
  13. Put in the refrigerator to chill for 2 hours.
  14. Check as this layer may chill quicker.
  15. Spoon in the 2nd layer of the white milk mixture.
  16. Refrigerate for 30 minutes.
  17. Spoon the 3rd layer of jello (lime green).
  18. Set in the refrigerator for 2 hours to set.
  19. Spoon some of the milk mixture over the lime green layer of jello.
  20. Put in the refrigerator to set for 30 minutes.
  21. Add the 4th thinner layer of jello (Berry blue).
  22. Return to the refrigerator to chill.

Whipped Cream directions:

  1. Using a stand mixer, combine all ingredients and mix on medium speed.
  2. Mix until you see stiffed peaks in your frosting.
  3. Once the Whipped cream is made, divide equally into 2 bowls
  4. Add 1 drop of blue food coloring into the first bowl.
  5. Stir well to mix the color throughout all of the frosting.
  6. Leave the rest of the whipped cream white.
  7. Put a large tip in a large pastry bag.
  8. Scoop the blue whipped cream into the pastry bag on one side of the pastry bag.
  9. Scoop the white frosting into the other side of the pastry bag.
  10. Squeeze the open end of the pastry bag to push the whipped cream to the tip.
  11. Continue to push the Whipped cream until the it comes out of the tip.
  12. Squeeze a large dollop of whipped cream onto the center of the cup.
  13. Sprinkle blue sprinkles of the whipped cream
  14. Place the mermaid tail and seashell on the whipped cream.
  15. Return to the refrigerator until ready to serve.
