One of the best things to do to help make your house a home is to decorate it with your style. Beautiful artwork is displayed all-around your home. What about hanging a piece done by a rat? Sounds weird, but these rats create artwork that sells out like crazy!
Rat Artwork
Other animals have created other pieces of art that are simply stunning, so its no wonder that rats can do the same.
Steph Toogood is the owner of Toogood’s Tiny Paws, where you can buy the rat’s artwork. She didn’t always want to own a rat art business.
How it all Started
The idea came to her after a dear one died. She explains, “The idea of painting on canvases came to me after I lost one of my boys, Captain Jack Sparrow (Gibbs’ brother) last year (2018).” Jack went in for surgery but never made it out alive due to the anesthetics.
Because Steph works at the vet’s, she was with Jack throughout the entire surgery. She was able to get some paw prints after Jack passed away.
She further explains her thought process of creating the art, “I thought it would be lovely for my boys to do something similar when they were with me to keep when they’re gone, so I got some mini canvases and paint, and they’ve created memorial pieces for me to keep.”
Steph also loves photography, so she took many pictures of her rats with their masterpieces.
After uploading her pictures online, many others want to have the masterpiece artwork done by rats. Thus, her business started on April 20, 2019.
Toogood’s Tiny Paws
There are 12 rats that create the artwork. Even though it is a business, Steph explained that her rats are friends first, artists second. The demand may be high for the artwork, but she wants them to have a normal life, not just working all the time.
Steph shares, “Some of the boys are target trained and will follow a target stick or by hand to make painting easier – we even have a miniature agility course which some of them are good at!”
She doesn’t just want a business. She also plans to share about how to have rat friends and what other activities her rats do.
Currently, her Etsy shop is out of stock. Everyone loved all her products, especially the rat’s artwork. She is working on getting more canvases to restock soon.
