Spiced Bourbon Cherries
Ingredients:
- 1 pound sweet bing cherries, pitted and stems removed
- 1/2 cup water
- 1/2 cup honey
- 1 tsp. vanilla extract
- 1/2 tsp. of nutmeg
- 2 cinnamon stick
- 1 grated skin of an orange
- 1 cup bourbon
Directions:
- Place the cherries in two clean pint-sized mason jars.
- Set aside.
- In a medium saucepan on medium heat add your water, honey, vanilla extract and honey.
- Stir until combined.
- Add the cinnamon and grated orange.
- Stirring occasionally.
- You stir until the mixture reaches a simmer.
- Reduce heat to a low, and simmer for 10 minutes.
- Remove from heat, and strain the mixture into a bowl.
- Add in the spiced bourbon, and stir to combine.
- Pour the bourbon mixture evenly over the cherries.
- Set to the side so it can cool completely to room temperature.
- Secure the lids on the mason jars, give them a shake, and refrigerate for at least 3 days before using.
- The cherries will last for up to 2-3 months.
