Deep Fried Oreos

  • Heat about 4 inches of vegetable oil in a deep saucepan or skillet over medium heat. Aim for 350°F (175°C). Use a candy thermometer if you have one to keep an eye on the temperature.
  • While the oil is heating, whisk together the milk, egg, and 2 teaspoons of vegetable oil in a mixing bowl.
  • Gradually add the pancake mix to the wet ingredients and mix until smooth. The batter should be thick enough to coat the cookies but not too runny*
  • Remove the Oreos from the package. Using a fork, fully coat each cookie with the pancake batter.
  • Carefully drop 2-3 coated Oreos into the hot oil. Fry for about 1-2 minutes per side or until golden brown. Avoid overcrowding the pan.
  • Use a slotted spoon to remove the fried Oreos and drain them on a plate lined with paper towels.
  • Repeat the frying process with the remaining cookies, keeping an eye on the oil temperature.
  • Serve the fried Oreos warm, with powdered sugar dusted on top, if desired. Enjoy!

Notes

*To tell if your batter is just right, dip an Oreo into it and lift it out slowly. The batter should coat the cookie fully in a smooth, even layer without any of the Oreo peeking through. It should stick to the cookie without dripping too much. If the batter slides off or seems too runny, add a little more pancake mix and stir. If it feels clumpy or overly thick, mix in a small splash of milk to thin it out.
