Spiced Bourbon Cherries

If you like cherries you are going to love making these spiced bourbon cherries. Since they last for a couple months you can make a big batch and save them or give them as gifts. Yum!

Ingredients

  • 1 pound sweet bing cherries pitted and stems removed
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/2 cup honey
  • 1 tsp. vanilla extract
  • 1/2 tsp. of nutmeg
  • 2 cinnamon stick
  • 1 grated skin of an orange
  • 1 cup bourbon

Instructions

  • Place the cherries in two clean pint-sized mason jars
  • Set aside.
  • In a medium saucepan on medium heat add your water, honey, vanilla extract and honey.
  • Stir until combined.
  • Add the cinnamon and grated orange.
  • Stirring occasionally.
  • You stir until the mixture reaches a simmer.
  • Reduce heat to a low, and simmer for 10 minutes.
  • Remove from heat, and strain the mixture into a bowl.
  • Add in the spiced bourbon, and stir to combine.
  • Pour the bourbon mixture evenly over the cherries.
  • Set to the side so it can cool completely to room temperature.
  • Secure the lids on the mason jars, give them a shake, and refrigerate for at least 3 days before using.
  • The cherries will last for up to 2-3 months.
