Do you find yourself sometimes not as happy as you would like to be? New research shows that women who spend more time with their friends will have better health! Forming those relationships will help them be happier as well.
If you think about it, women value friendships very strongly. Women can offer more emotional support than any other type of friendship. When you confide in your girlfriends, they understand what you are going through and offer so much support.

Spend Time with Your Friends Twice a Week
Research is showing that if you go spend time with your friends at least twice a week, you will start to feel much better.
This research was done by a psychologist named Robin Dunbar. He focuses mainly on the social relationships revolving around humans.
Robin Dunbar, along with Danny Wallace started an experiment involving a group of male friends. They concluded that these men grew healthier the more time they spent together. They also found that it works for both men and women.
Health Benefits
These health benefits can include:
- less anxiety
- strong immune system
- recover quicker from the flu
- feeling happier and more generous
The findings from Dunbar and Wallace’s study shows just how important and meaningful our social groups are in our lives. The bigger the social and the more time spent with those who love and support you will only benefit your health, both physically and mentally.
Along with their study, they found that those who have a bigger social group are less likely to get sick very often, and when they do, they recover much faster than those without a social group. They even found that these people are less likely to die, along with their children!
Female Bonds Increase Happiness
This first study was done with men, yes. However, other studies done by Standford and UCLA have researched female friendships just as well, and the same principles apply.
In our brains, we have hormones called oxytocin and serotonin. Both of these hormones impact our happiness. When women have healthy friendships, the levels of oxytocin and serotonin rise within us, thus making us happier and healthier as well.
Women need to keep their relationships with their girlfriends, no matter how old and busy you become. At each stage in our lives, we need those friendships to help us in times of stress.
Laugh More Often
You’ve heard the phrase, “laughter is the best medicine” and it can be very true. Laughter has all the same health benefits mentioned previously.
So, go out with your friends, make lots of jokes, and just live happily. I know it may be hard sometimes to leave your children and spouse behind, but it will only help you be a better spouse and mother. When you are happy, your family is happy as well.
When women unite and bond with each other, something powerful happens. You will feel happier, more secure, and ultimately healthier. Make it a priority to spend time with your friends, it will only help your health.
