Bear Paw Cookies

Bear Paw Cookies

The base of these cookies are the same as our favorite sugar cookies. It is a nice soft and chewy cookie. You can roll the balls of dough in granulated sugar if preferred. Or just put them directly onto the cookie sheet.

Ingredients you will need:

  • Butter – make sure to use unsalted butter. Different brands of butter have different amounts of salt, so we like control the amount of salt going in the recipe.
  • Sweetener – we use granulated sugar.
  • Eggs – you will only need one egg.
  • Flavoring – you will use vanilla extract for these cookies.
  • Dry ingredients – flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt.
  • Decorating – 1 bag of Ghiradelli dark chocolate melting wafers, only need 24 wafer chips and semi sweet chocolate chips (only 3 chips go onto each cookie for the claws).

I made the cookies with my grandkids. They enjoyed making the paws. The picture my daughter shared with me listed different ingredients though. Like brown sugar and 2 eggs and cornstarch. It directed me to your site. I wanted to try the other recipe to see which tasted better.

      Thanks Cindy!

I didn’t have various sizes of choc chips so I did 2 choc chips for eyes and lenthgwise pieces of pecans for noses and made snowman faces.

    1. Jill says:

      How cute!

  6. Katy says:

Tasty but they sure did not come out like the picture. I put the second tray in the fridge before baking and that didn’t help either.
    They spread out flat.

I have a therapy dog who does READing to the Dog at our local library. Instead of calling them Bear paws I called them Puppy paws and they were a hit! Thanks for the idea. Very simple and easy to make.

I pinned this a while back and want to make them this Christmas. I cannot get the Ghiradelli chocolate, do you think a Hershey’s kiss would work? They look absolutely delicious.

    1. Jill says:

Hi Robbie. Yes, Hershey’s kisses will work fine with these cookies.
