A wooden spoon in a jar of homemade ranch seasoning

This homemade ranch seasoning is so nice to have on hand, especially if you use ranch seasoning constantly, like my house. You most likely have all the seasonings on hand to whip it up, and it only takes a couple of minutes! We use this to make homemade ranch dressing, which is a staple in our house and used to dip everything from fries to onion rings to chicken wings. I will often make a double batch of this seasoning blend just because we go through it so quickly, considering the boys want ranch flavor on EVERYTHING.

Why I Love This Homemade Ranch Seasoning Recipe

  • Only 6 ingredients. This seasoning mix is a blend just 6 very common spices, like parsley, onion, and garlic. I usually have them all in the cupboard already.
  • No buttermilk powder. Many homemade ranch seasoning recipes use buttermilk powder. This one doesn’t. I prefer the more potent flavor of the spices on their own and just add buttermilk as needed when making homemade ranch dressing.
  • Endless ways to use it. This seasoning blend is the base for ranch dip and ranch dressing but is also an easy way to add flavor to casseroles, pasta, burgers, dips, and more. I included some of our favorite ways to use it below.

Recipe Ingredients

This homemade seasoning requires just 6 spices. Scroll down to the recipe card below for the exact measurements.

  • Dried parsley – Parsley is the primary ingredient in ranch seasoning. I usually buy the big container so I have plenty on hand to make this.
  • Dried dill – Another primary flavor in ranch! Adds a mildly tangy, fresh flavor.
  • Garlic powder & onion powder – Add the earthy flavors to the mix.
  • Salt & pepper – Smaller amounts of salt and pepper enhance the overall flavor.

How To Make Ranch Seasoning

Homemade ranch seasoning is so easy to make. It takes less than 5 minutes!

  • Combine. Whisk all the ingredients together in a bowl.
  • Grind. Grind the mixture in a spice grinder for 10 seconds or so. Grinding the mixture is highly recommended as the ingredients mix more evenly that way. A food processor doesn’t usually work for the grinding as they don’t normally grind small enough.
  • Enjoy! Use immediately or store in an airtight container.

Ways To Use It

There are endless ways to use this homemade ranch seasoning! Keep in mind that 2 Tablespoons of this homemade mixture replaces a 1-ounce packet from the store.

Here are some ideas:

  • Veggie dip – Just combine the seasoning with sour cream for a quick and easy ranch veggie dip!
  • Ranch dressing – Replace the individual spices in my homemade ranch dressing recipe with this mixture for ease.
  • Marinades & rubs – Use this ranch seasoning to coat meats, veggies, and more. It’s also great mixed into burgers!
  • Chicken bacon ranch pasta Chicken bacon ranch pasta is a family favorite! Just replace the packet of seasoning with this recipe.
  • Crack chicken – Ranch seasoning is part of the reason crack chicken is so addicting!
  • Buffalo chicken – Whether it’s slow cooker buffalo chicken or buffalo chicken dip, ranch seasoning helps balance the spicy flavors!

Those are just a few ideas! Use it in any recipe that calls for a packet of ranch seasoning.

Proper Storage

  • Pantry. Homemade ranch seasoning should be kept in an airtight container, preferably glass, like a spice bottle or mason jar. When stored in a cool, dry pantry away from moisture, it lasts for up to 6 months.
  • Freezer. I’ve never attempted to store this mix in the freezer, but it should be fine if it’s stored in an airtight container and no moisture gets in.
