With cream cheese, sour cream, bacon, and cheddar cheese, this Million Dollar Dip is an absolutely addicting dip that’s ready in just 5 minutes! Serve with crackers, carrots, and celery.

In the same vein as million dollar chicken salad, million dollar spaghetti, and million dollar chicken casserole, this dip is so good that it’s worth a million dollars (Okay, maybe not but seriously, it’s SO good!). This dip recipe (also known as “Neiman Marcus dip”) was introduced back in the 1950s at the Zodiac room in Dallas, Texas, which was later referred to as million dollar dip. It’s crazy simple, with a cream cheese and sour cream base, bacon bits, cheddar cheese, and green onions as the primary ingredients. Whenever we’re invited to a party, game day or picnic, this is one of the dips everyone asks for!
Why This Million Dollar Dip Is So Addicting
- Bacon and cheese! The two main ingredients in this dip are cheddar cheese and bacon bits. Using real bacon bits is key! Those two ingredients are part of what makes the dip so good.
- Ready in 5 minutes. As the one who prepares it, the 5 minute prep time of this million dollar dip definitely puts it in the “addicting” category for me!
- Salty, creamy, and savory. It has such a wonderful blend of textures and flavors, from the smooth and creamy base to the crunchy, salty bacon. Add some fresh veggies or crackers and it’s perfection!
Recipe Ingredients
Here’s an overview of the handful of ingredients needed to make this dip. Scroll down to the recipe card below for the exact measurements.
- Cream cheese – Make sure the cream cheese is properly softened. If it’s not, there may be small chunks that are a challenge to fully integrate. Reduced fat cream cheese will be fine in this recipe too.
- Sour cream – Regular or light sour cream both work in this dip.
- Cheddar cheese – I like to use sharp cheddar in this dip but mild cheddar would be fine too.
- Bacon bits – I used pre-packaged real bacon bits here as it saved time. But you can make regular bacon and crumble it yourself. You will need 16 ounces of bacon to get the amount you need for the recipe. I wouldn’t recommend the fake Bacon Bits for this particular recipe.
- Green onions – Green onions add flavor within the harsh bite of red or white onions.
- Garlic powder – For a bit of extra flavor throughout.

Serving Suggestions
Million dollar dip makes a great appetizer for game days and parties, next to other favorites like birria sliders, dill pickle Chex mix, and sheet pan quesadillas. I like to serve it with a variety of dippers like Ritz crackers, potato chips, pretzels, baby carrots, celery slices, and toasted baguette slices.
Make Ahead
Million dollar dip can be made ahead of time and refrigerated for up to five days. It can also be frozen for up to three months. If you decide to make this ahead, make sure to give the dip time to come to room temperature first, as it will firm up when chilled, and give it a good stir before serving.
