Star Wars Wampa Cake

My little 6 year old just had his big Star Wars birthday party. We made lots of fun food for his party and will be posting tons of Star Wars party food ideas through out the next couple of weeks. I will share some how to’s on certain things that we made and put them all in one post when we are finished. We tried to think up original ideas and change things up from our Star Wars party last year.

My boys always love scene cakes. Last year was our Garbage Masher Cake and this year he wanted the Planet Hoth Wampa cake. Let me first start off by saying that I am not a cake decorator and really had no idea what I was doing. I just started putting this together and this is what we came up with. All of you Star Wars geeks will totally get this cake. I tried to come as close as I could to the scene where Luke is captured by the Wampa.

How To Make A Planet Hoth Wampa Cake

  • Start out by making walls using pretzel rods and white chocolate.
  • Glue them together on wax paper with the white chocolate and let dry. You can do this a few days in advance.
  • Break pretzel rods in half to make the corners. When you get them all done then take some boxes or something big to support them standing.
  • Glue them together with the chocolate and let that dry. I transferred mine, but was so afraid it would pull apart. You might want to do this around the baked cake to save you from transferring. We baked 3 cakes in a 10×15 pan. We cut off the corners to fit the walls.

Once you get the wall around the cake it will look like this…

Making Star Wars Planet Hoth Wampa Cake with pretzel rods
  • Squeeze white cookie frosting on top of the top pretzel rods and place graham crackers around the top and let that dry.
  • Put white chocolate on the feet of the Luke figure and press that onto a graham cracker with him standing and let that dry. Flip him over and glue on the other graham crackers with cookie frosting and let dry.
  • Use white fondant to make icicles with that and press onto the graham crackers draping over the sides.
  • Frost all of the cake and walls. You can make other icicles for the bottom and just press those in. (We also made some bones that were in the scene as well.)
  • Press in the Wampa figure and the light saber.

This was definitely a hit and my 6 year old just loved it!
