We created these Rice Krispies Treats Trees & we had SO much fun making these! These are very easy to make & a great Christmas edible craft for the kids to make themselves! We used a secret ingredient that makes these fun trees taste amazing & you will not have to deal with any messy food coloring to make them green! My boys said that the key lime rice krispies treats are so much better than regular ones & I have to agree! They would also be fun to bring or have the kids make them at school for a Christmas class party.
Key Lime Rice Krispie Treats Trees
- 6 cups Kellogg’s Rice Krispies
- 3 T Butter
- Mallow Bursts Key Lime Marshmallows (found at Walmart)
- Christmas Pearls from Sweet Works
- Reese’s Mini Peanut Butter Cups
- Cookie Icing (Betty Crocker)
Melt the butter & key lime marshmallows in a large pan over low heat. Mix in the Rice Krispies. Let that cool for about 5 minutes. Spray your hands with cooking spray (or butter). Spoon out enough to fit in your hand & shape into trees. Place them onto wax paper.
We decorated ours using Peals from Sweetworks. You can just press them in & they should stay. If not, just secure using some of the icing. We put a little icing on top of the Reese’s mini cups & placed the trees on top….
You can add a tree skirt using a fruit roll up. We cut a strip from a fruit roll up & then cut that strips into pieces using kitchen scissors. Press the pieces together & then cut around the edges for even things up. We placed snowflake sprinkles on top…isn’t it so cute?!:)
Here is the tree without the skirt….
My boys absolutely loved these & thought they tasted wonderful!
