These Air Fryer Baked Potatoes are super easy to make, with a crispy salted skin and fluffy, buttery inside. Serve them with butter or load them up with your favorite toppings. Either way, they’re the perfect side dish to nearly any dinner.

Baked potatoes are such an easy, versatile side, and this air fryer recipe makes them even easier! These air fryer baked potatoes turn out perfect every single time, with a crispy skin and fluffy, tender inside. I’ve served them plain with just butter and chives, but my favorite thing to do is to load them up with sour cream, shredded cheese, and bacon. They’re so good!
Why I Love These Air Fryer Baked Potatoes
Here are a couple of reasons why I love making baked potatoes in the air fryer.
- Only 4 ingredients. Russet potatoes, oil, salt, and butter. That’s really all you need! I always end up adding a few toppings, but the base recipe is so simple.
- Faster than baking them! I find making baked potatoes in the air fryer to be much faster than baking them. It takes a good 15-20 minutes more to make this same recipe in the oven and the skin doesn’t get as crispy, in my experience.
- Versatile. There are so many things you can do with these baked potatoes. I’ve included several ideas below, like adding herbs before baking, turning them into stuffed baked potatoes, or simply loading them up with toppings.
Recipe Ingredients
Here are the 4 basic ingredients needed for this recipe. Scroll down to the recipe card below for the measurements.
- Potatoes – Large Russet potatoes are best for baked potatoes. Be sure to rinse and dry them ahead of time.
- Vegetable oil – Helps the salt stick and crisps the skin.
- Salt
- Butter
Topping Ideas
Toppings are, in my opinion, one of the best parts of these air fryer baked potatoes! Here are my favorites:
- Chives
- Sour cream
- Bacon
- Shredded cheese (I like cheddar)
How To Make Baked Potatoes In The Air Fryer
Here’s an overview of how to make air fryer baked potatoes. The printable instructions can be found in the recipe card below.
- Season the potatoes. Wash and gently scrub the potatoes, then dry them with a paper towel. Pour the oil over the potatoes in a bowl and rub to coat. Sprinkle with kosher salt, making sure the skins are completely covered.
- Air fryer. Preheat the air fryer to 400F. Place the potatoes in the basket. Air fry for 35-45 minutes, flipping them halfway.
- Fluff & serve. Remove the potatoes from the air fryer. Cool for 2-3 minutes, then slice lengthwise down the center. Use a fork to fluff the inside. Add a tab of butter and chopped chives to each one, along with any desired toppings.
Tips & Variations
Here are a few things to keep in mind when making these air fryer baked potatoes, as well as a few ways to customize them.
- Don’t crowd the basket. I noted 3-4 potatoes in this recipe because it really depends on the size of the air fryer. It’s important that they’re in a single layer with space between them so that the air is able to circulate.
- How do I know when they’re done? The exact time it takes to make baked potatoes in the air fryer depends on the size of the potatoes. The best way to check is to pierce them with a fork.
- Add some herbs. Mix herbs like rosemary, thyme, or parsley into the oil before rubbing it onto the potatoes for additional flavor.
- Switch up the cheese. Try other cheeses like mozzarella, gouda, or Monterey Jack for a different twist.
Serving Suggestions
I typically serve these baked potatoes as a side dish. They’re perfect for a fancy steak house dinner next to pan seared steak, prime rib, or Alice Springs chicken. I also love them with more casual dinners, like chicken or baked tilapia.
You can also turn the baked potatoes into a meal by topping them with cooked ground beef, taco meat, chili, or steamed vegetables.
How To Store Leftovers
- Fridge. Store leftover baked potatoes in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.
- Reheat. Reheat in the air fryer at 350°F (175°C) for about 5-7 minutes. You can also microwave them, but the skin won’t stay as crispy.

I’m on my own, suggestions for 1 potato
Hi Sharon. This method would work for one potato as well. I would check around 25 minutes.
