We went on another camping trip in our newly restored vintage camper & this was our first Fall camping trip. I definitely prefer camping in the Fall. The weather was so nice! We went to Lake Allatoona & we loved the campsite. Beautiful view…just wished we would have been closer to the bathrooms!:)
We came up with some fun food camping ideas to take along with us & make while we were there that we wanted to share with you. Starting out with Brownie Bear Claw Camping Cookies. These are SO easy to make and my boys just loved them. We always tell scary stories at night & thought that these Bear Cookies would be a perfect fit for our camping trip!
Brownie Bear Claw Camping Cookies
1 Box of Pillsbury Brownie Mix
1 Egg
1/3 Cup Oil
2 Tablespoons of Water
Slivered Almonds
Hershey’s Simple Pleasure Chocolate
Preheat your oven to 350. Combine the brownie mix, egg, oil, & water. Scoop out spoon fulls of the mix onto a cookie sheet that is lightly greased. Shape the tops into toes by pinching with your fingers. Then press in the slivered almonds. Bake for about 8 to 10 minutes.
Then press in the slivered almonds. Bake for about 8 to 10 minutes. After baking press a Hershey’s Simple Pleasure Candy in the middle with the back side facing up. Seriously these are very easy to make and kids love them!
Here is a close up…
Here is our little vintage Scotty camper that we fit 5 of us in! When my husband first brought this home I thought I would hate camping. Especially in something so tiny, but we are all very comfortable in this & we all love it!
I wanted to pack us something for lunch that would be better that boring PB&J sandwiches so I made these Campfire Pockets that we packed & then you can heat them over your campfire or grill. They are so good & I will be making these often.
Campfire Pockets
2 Tubes of Pillsbury Pizza Dough
Sliced Turkey or Ham
Sliced Cheese
Cut the pizza dough into 4 squares using a pizza cutter. Then fill up one side of the square by laying the cheese & turkey. Fold the other side over & press down the edges using a fork. Bake according to the package directions. Wrap in foil & place in a storage bag. Then you can take it out of the bag & reheat then in the foil.
We also did the same kind of thing for dinner. I cooked diced chicken & potatoes in a pan. Then mixed all of it with barbecue sauce. Wrapped it in foil & then we reheated it on the grill. This makes things so much easier when preparing for dinner.
My oldest had fun making crafts & created this bird house with our milk container….
We had fun feeding the ducks….
and fishing….
and even pretend fishing….
We also waned to make something different with s’mores & created these Keylime White Chocolate S’mores. Might sound strange, but these are now my favorite s’mores ever!
We used Keylime Marshmallows, Graham Crackers, & Hershey’s Cookies & Cream Chocolate…
I beg you to try this…this combination is fantastic!
We also made Campfire Cones by adding broken Hershey’s chocolate bars, banana, & marshmallows in ice cream cones. Wrap them up in foil & hold them over a campfire or grill until melted. These were a big hit! We spotted this idea from Come Together Kids.
As you can see we were still in shorts here in GA…
Here is our set up…

I have a question about the brownies. You didn’t follow the box instructions correct? What you listed is what we should go by? I’m making these next weekend for a family dinner and a movie for Brother Bear.
Hey Robynn, yes, follow the instructions on the recipe on the site for best results.
Thank you! Can’t wait to see how they turn out!
What a surprise when I saw your camper! It is exactly the same camper that we had when our three kids were small…..& yes, we crammed 5 of us in it. Our two boys slept in the “hammack” bed – divided into two above our couch – turned into a double bed for Mom & Dad, & our youngest – a daughter, slept on the table dropped down to make into a bed. What great memories & it was even the same color!! Thanks for jogging up some great memories. Ours did not have a canopy so if weather was bad, everyone piled on their beds to read for some good quality quiet time.
Congrats! I'm just stopping by to let you know that this post was selected as an Editor's Pick for November (yes, we're a bit behind from the holidays!) over at Fun Family Crafts. 🙂 You can see it here https://funfamilycrafts.com/editors-picks-november-2013/
Your camper looks amazing! Camping is the perfect time to bond with your kids more. These ideas will surely make their time camping with you worthwhile. Thanks for everything!

How cute are those cookies – love all your camping ideas!!
Love the bear paw cookies … best kind of bears to have while camping! I have made s'mores with the lemon marshmallows and white chocolate and love them … now I'll need to try the key lime 🙂
Thanks Brenda! Haven't spotted them yet, but would love to try that as well..sounds great!
