What is the Difference Between Lady bugs and Lady Beetles?

Now, don’t get confused when it comes to lady beetles and lady bugs. They may look similar, but there are some very key differences between them. Of course, ladybugs are super adorable and way better for the environment where as Asian Lady Beetles are invasive and can bite you. These beetles also work in swarms, so if you notice a lot of them around, they may be trying to take over.

One of the biggest differences between lady bugs and lady beetles is that the beetle has a very noticeable “M” marking on their head. Another difference is that they thoroughly enjoy coming to visit and overstay their welcome in your home while lady bugs tend to keep it outside. They also like to leave behind a yellowish liquid that is very unpleasant and of course, they can bite too. And, lady bugs are sweet and don’t tend to do either of those things.

What Weather Do Lady Beetles Come Out?

It is more common for lady beetles to come into your house when the weather is cooler. They like to invade your house by coming in through nooks and crannies to look for a warm and cozy shelter.

How To Get Rid Of Them?

One user on Facebook found a great solution to get rid of these pesky little insects. Women by the name of Autumn McWhorter shared her effective mix of 2 cups of warm water, 4 Tbps of sugar, and 4 drops of dish soap (liquid). She pours the mixture into a mason jar and leaves it out on her countertop to attract the beetles. The idea behind this is that they will be attracted to the scent and taste of the sugar while the dish soap acts as a slippery and sticky way to trap them in the jar.

In conclusions, it is a very necessary step to get rid of this invasive species. If you let them go for too long, they will simply take over your house. I use this method and it works every time to get rid of them and reduce the amount of Lady Beetles.
