What You’ll Need
Here is what you need to make this saltine cracker candy. You will be making a simple toffee that uses two ingredients plus crackers, nuts, and chocolate. Scroll below to the printable recipe card for exact measurements.
- Saltine crackers: Just simple saltine crackers will do great. You may use a name brand or a store brand — any kind works great.
- Butter: I use unsalted butter when I make this recipe but salted butter works as well. I find that the salted butter doesn’t make the candy too salty but I like it to be on the sweeter side.
- Brown sugar: I typically go for light brown sugar because I seem to always have some in the pantry. Dark brown sugar is great, too. Especially if you enjoy a deeper molasses flavor!
- Chocolate chips: Semi-sweet chocolate chips provide the perfect balance of bitter and sweet that works well in this recipe.
- Pecans: You may purchase whole pecans and chop them or purchase them prechopped. It doesn’t make a difference, just choose what you prefer.

- Pour over the crackers. Carefully pour the hot toffee mixture over the top of the crackers and spread it evenly with a silicone spatula.

Variation ideas
Here are some different topping options for your saltine cracker toffee.
- Nuts: This recipe works great with any kind of nut. Peanuts, cashews, and walnuts are my top substitution suggestions. However, feel free to get creative and try something completely different like chopped hazelnuts or pistachios!
- Chocolate chips: My first pick if I don’t have semi-sweet chocolate is dark. I love the rich flavor! However, milk or white chocolate chips are great as well. Use your favorite variety and see how it turns out.
- Additional toppings: Sprinkles, M&Ms, and even Reese’s pieces may be added on top to make the candy extra indulgent and to take the presentation to the next level. This is your chance to be creative!

Store leftovers in an airtight container with parchment paper in between the layers for up to 1 week at room temperature or up to 2 weeks in the refrigerator.
