No Bake Dr Pepper Pie Recipe

Dr Pepper Pie is one of my favorite no-bake desserts. It has a smooth and creamy pudding filling that’s flavored with Dr Pepper soda to create an impressive treat that will please a crowd. I’ve made it a handful of times, and I was pleasantly surprised by how sweet and tasty it was. It has just the right amount of Dr Pepper flavor without overpowering the other flavors. Everyone who I serve it to always asks for the recipe, too!

Why You’ll Love This Dr Pepper Pie

  • It’s kid-approved. This is a dessert that adults love! To my surprise, my kids enjoy it, too. Make it for your family, and watch your little ones devour it every single time.
  • It’s quick to prepare. It takes about 15 minutes to prepare the crust and filling for this Dr Pepper pie. I like to make it in advance and pop it in the freezer to serve later or the next day.
  • No oven time is required. This is a no-bake dessert recipe. I like to make it when it’s hot outside, but you can make it all year if you want. It’s so tasty that you won’t want to wait for Summer.

What You’ll Need

Below is everything you need to make the homemade graham cracker crust and the filling for the Dr Pepper pie. There are no obscure ingredients here—they’re all common and at your local grocery store.

  • Graham cracker crumbs: This is the base for your pie crust. I use regular honey graham crackers, but cinnamon or even chocolate would work.
  • Sugar: I use white granulated sugar to sweeten the crust. You can use brown sugar instead if you prefer. It adds a subtle molasses flavor.
  • Butter: Melted butter coats the graham crackers and helps to form the crust. I like to use unsalted butter so it doesn’t add a salty flavor to the dessert.
  • Whipped topping: This adds a fluffy texture to the filling. It keeps it from feeling too heavy and rich. I reserve extra for the top as a garnish.
  • Dr Pepper: Use regular, zero sugar, or diet Dr Pepper. Any variety would work well in this recipe. You may even use one of the fun flavor varieties like strawberries and cream.
  • Milk: The milk and Dr Pepper are combined to make the pudding mixture. It helps give it a thicker texture so it holds its shape. Whole or 2% milk will work great.
  • Vanilla pudding mix: Ensure that it’s instant vanilla pudding mix so it mixes well with the milk and soda.
  • Maraschino cherries: The sweet cherries make the perfect garnish for this Dr Pepper pie. They add the perfect pop of color!

How to Make Dr Pepper Pie

Just a few simple steps (get the full directions in the recipe box below).

  • Prepare the pudding mixture. Whisk the Dr Pepper and milk with the pudding mix. After a few minutes, it will start to thicken.
  • Add whipped topping. Gently fold the whipped topping into the pudding mixture until there are no more streaks.
  • Transfer and freeze. Pour the filling into the pie crust and spread it evenly. Cover it with plastic wrap and put it in the freezer for at least 4 hours or overnight.
  • Garnish and serve. Finish your frozen pie with more whipped topping and maraschino cherries. Slice and enjoy!

Tips for Success

  • Don’t use homemade whipped cream. Unless you are adding gelatin, do not use homemade whipped cream. Whipped topping like Cool Whip is stabilized and holds its shape better than brands like Reddi Whip.
  • Use a store-bought crust. If you want to save a couple of steps, you may purchase a premade graham cracker crust. I like to make it myself because the grocery store ones are often cracked and don’t hold the pie filling as well.
  • Try an electric mixer. Instead of using a whisk, you may use an electric hand mixer or stand mixer for the filling. It will save you a few extra minutes. Just keep it at medium speed so you don’t overmix the soda and make a mess.

Proper Storage

Store your Dr Pepper pie in the freezer for up to 1 month. I don’t recommend storing it in the refrigerator to preserve its texture and prevent it from becoming runny and soft.
