What Is A Dump Cake?

Dump cakes are traditionally made with a canned fruit (like cherry pie filling, pineapple, etc…), a dry cake mix, and butter. As it bakes, the ingredients meld together to make a really great cobbler-like sweet treat. You just dump the ingredients in a pan by layering (no mixing) and the results are amazing!

  • Dump the peach slices, including the canning juice, into the pan. Arrange the peaches evenly.

What to Serve with the Easy Peach Dump Cake

  • Whipped cream – Fresh whipped cream or Cool Whip are wonderful on this peach dump cake.
  • Ice cream – A scoop of vanilla ice cream or even peach ice cream is a great accompaniment.
  • Peaches – add extra chopped peaches.

Tip: Love peaches and want to add more to the dump cake? Add a second can of peaches, just drain off the canning juice first. The canning juice of one can is just the right amount for the recipe, so when adding the extra can of peaches, make sure you get as much of the liquid drained as possible. Then you’ll have a wonderful double peach version of this recipe!

How to Store Leftovers

Keep the leftover peach dump cake covered with plastic or in an air tight food storage container. It can keep at room temperature, but is best when refrigerated. The dump cake will stay fresh for up to three days.

    1. Hi Char. The 9 x 13 works best for the dump cake. If you use the 8 x 8 you’ll need to keep an eye on the bake time which will likely take longer to get done all the way through.

It was easy to make and it was very delicious. Serve it with vanilla ice cream. That really makes it out of the world. Love it.

So good and easy! I cut up the peaches into smaller pieces and melted the butter to drizzle over the cake mix, sprinkled with cinnamon also. It turned out wonderful!

I live in over Sixties Apartments. Twice a month we have lunch and dinner meal with all the residents invited (approx 70). I have made this recipe a number of times. Each time the dish is scraped clean. Someone is always begging for me to make it again.
I use the two cans of peach pie filling. It is always a hit.

    1. Hi Wendy. You sure can. You will want to make a simple syrup to use in place of the heavy syrup in the canned peaches which adds the sweetness and liquid the recipe needs.

  4. I got this recipe in the 70’s from my sister-in-law and have made it countless times over the years. Only difference is over the peaches sprinkle have the cake mix, than 3/4-1 cup chopped nuts, then the remainder of the cake mix. I have also switched to using peaches in their own juice as I got older as it wasn’t as sweet. My family still loves this. Some just with the whipped topping on top, some warm it with ice cream on the side. Quick, easy and delicious.

I used pears that I cooked down. DE-LICIOUS!! I’ll be adding this to my go to desserts. BTW, my husband inhaled it.

I melted the butter in the pan in the oven. I did forget about it so the butter turned brown. It smelled amazing though and decided to just go with it. I added the brown sugar and then all other ingredients and baked it.
Oh my goodness, the flavor from the brown butter was OUTSTANDING!!!!
That’s how I make it all the time now. You should try it out.

    1. Hi Diana. Not a silly question. They are not the same. The juice is usually just added water whereas the syrup has sugar added. If you use the peaches in juice, you may need to add sugar unless you are looking for a less sugar option.
