What Is A Dump Cake?
Dump cakes are traditionally made with a canned fruit (like cherry pie filling, pineapple, etc…), a dry cake mix, and butter. As it bakes, the ingredients meld together to make a really great cobbler-like sweet treat. You just dump the ingredients in a pan by layering (no mixing) and the results are amazing!

Ingredients You’ll Need:
Here’s what you’ll need to make peach dump cake (the exact measurements and full recipe instructions are below in the easy to print recipe card):
- Butter – be sure to use regular, salted, full-fat butter and not margarine.
- Brown sugar – you’ll sprinkle this in the bottom of the pan before adding the other ingredients.
- Canned peaches in heavy syrup – do not drain the syrup from the can as it is needed as a part of the recipe.
- Yellow cake mix – use any brand of dry cake mix that you like.

How to Make Easy Peach Dump Cake
- Preheat the oven to 350ºF degrees. Brush melted butter over the bottom of a 9×13-inch baking dish. Evenly sprinkle the 2 tablespoons of brown sugar over the butter in the pan.
- Dump the peach slices, including the canning juice, into the pan. Arrange the peaches evenly.


- Spread the cake mix over the peaches.
- Cut the 1 ½ sticks of butter into small pieces and place evenly over top of the cake mix.


- Bake for 45 minutes, or until the top is golden brown. Serve warm.

Any suggestions for using fresh peaches instead of canned?
Hi Carol. Yes, you can use fresh peaches. You can use about a cup of simple syrup for the liquid you’ll be missing from the canned peaches.

I always find that I have dry cake mix on top when it’s done backing, so lately I’ve mixed the cake mix with melted butter and sprinkle all of it on top of the peaches. Comes out great!
I’m going to have a go at this as I’m sure our luncheon club ladies will really enjoy it, I’m guessing you make the cake mix and not just pour it over the peaches

Can You use an 8×8 pan instead of 9×13?
Hi Char. The 9 x 13 works best for the dump cake. If you use the 8 x 8 you’ll need to keep an eye on the bake time which will likely take longer to get done all the way through.

So good and easy! I cut up the peaches into smaller pieces and melted the butter to drizzle over the cake mix, sprinkled with cinnamon also. It turned out wonderful!
I live in over Sixties Apartments. Twice a month we have lunch and dinner meal with all the residents invited (approx 70). I have made this recipe a number of times. Each time the dish is scraped clean. Someone is always begging for me to make it again.
