Peanut Butter Ball Tips:

  • You can use any nut butters for this recipe. Almond butter, cashew butter, etc…
  • Make sure the balls are chilled before dipping.
  • We love these Chocolate Dipping Tools, but you can always use a fork for dipping. A toothpick will also work. Expect a bit of a mess, but it will work.
  • You can melt the chocolate in the microwave in 30- second increments, or over a double boiler.
  • You can use chunky peanut butter instead of creamy if you prefer. We also like to add in Rice Krispies sometimes for some texture.
  • Add any type of holiday sprinkles, chopped peanuts, sea salt or whatever you prefer. It’s all good!

What is the oil used for

    1. Jill says:

Hi Jacke. You’ll use the shortening or coconut oil in the chocolate. It helps with the consistency and adds a little shine to the chocolate.

    Sounds good

  7. Heidi says:

If I cut the sugar in half will it just cut back on the sweetness? This will be way too much sugar for me, but I also want the recipe to turn out well. Thanks.

    1. Jill says:

Hi Heidi. I think you could halve the sugar and still be able to roll them into balls. You could also substitute some of the powdered sugar for coconut flour or almond flour.

  8. Rosemary says:

These tasted very good, but as soon as they were removed from the fridge they got sticky. Also, the instructions did not say when I was to use the coconut oil or vegetable shortening. I made 2 new batches, but on one, I used 1 oz of edible wax with the chocolate chips to dip them and the other, I used dipping chips from Micheals. On half of the last batch, I dipped them into peanut butter dipping chips, let them harden then melting 3 chocolate dipping chips I used a spoon to swing lines over the PB dipped balls, then melted 3 PB chips and used a spoon to swing lines over the chocolate dipped balls. The wax and the dipping chips came out firmer with no sticking. The PB filler was delicious in all 3 balls.

  9. Sandy says:

Were you using the shortening or oil in the peanut butter mixture or in the chocolate to make it shiny ?/

    1. Jill says:

Hi Sandy. You’ll use the shortening or coconut oil in the chocolate as an updated version to paraffin wax. It helps with the consistency and adds a little shine to the chocolate.

  10. Susan says:

Can you use regular chocolate chips

    1. Jill says:

Hi Susan. Really any chocolate chips will work depending on your taste. We’ve made them with semi-sweet, milk chocolate and dark chocolate chips.
