Chocolate Peanut Butter and Pretzel Bars

Chocolate and peanut butter are a match made in heaven! The rich sweetness of chocolate pairs so well with creamy peanut butter. The salty pretzels add just the right amount of crunch, making these bars incredibly balanced and delicious. This is definitely one of my favorite no-bake treats to make — and the family agrees!

There are so many recipes with pretzels that you can make! Some of the best are pretzel desserts. Rolo Pretzel Turtles and Strawberry Pretzel Salad are out of this world, too.

ingredients needed to make Peanut Butter Pretzel Bars

Ingredients Needed

All you need is 5 ingredients to make these decadent peanut butter pretzel bars! It’s a very budget friendly dessert.

  • Miniature Pretzels: You can also use regular sized pretzels and crush them up.
  • Butter: I find that unsalted butter and salted butter both work well here. It just depends on your salt preference. It’s going to be melted so no need to soften! Reserve 1 tablespoon for the chocolate.
  • Peanut Butter – we prefer creamy, but chunky peanut butter is fine to use.
  • Powdered Sugar
  • Semi-Sweet Chocolate Chips: This is going to be melted with some butter to ensure it is smooth and easy to spread over the peanut butter layer.

How To Make Peanut Butter Pretzel Bars

Here are the easy to follow instructions to make the best pretzel bar recipe ever. It’s even great to make with your kids!

  • Prepare the pan. Line an 8×8 baking dish with parchment paper or aluminum foil. Make sure there’s a little extra around the edges so it’s easier to lift the bars out.
  • Separate the pretzels. Reserve 2 cups for the topping and place the rest in a food processor. Pulse the pretzels until you have fine crumbs and then pour them into a large bowl.
  • Combine the first layer. Add melted butter, peanut butter, and powdered sugar. Mix until well combined using a large spoon or rubber spatula.
  • Crust. Pour the mixture into the prepared baking dish and press down evenly. Ensure it covers the bottom and is flattened.
  • Melt chocolate. Add the chocolate chips and 1 tablespoon of butter to a microwave-safe bowl. Melt in 30 second intervals, stirring each time until smooth. Spread the chocolate mixture evenly over the pretzel crust.
  • Add pretzels. Break up the remaining pretzels and gently press them into the top of the bars. Cover and refrigerate for at least 1 hour.
  • Slice. Gently remove the pretzel bars from the baking dish and slice into bars.

Variations

  • Peanut Butter: I like creamy peanut butter for this recipe but you can also use the crunchy variety. Other nut butters like almond butter also work great.
  • Mix-Ins: Top with peanut butter chips or chopped peanuts in addition to the crushed pretzels.
  • Chocolate: Swap for dark chocolate or milk chocolate chips or even white chocolate!
  • Sea Salt: Add a sprinkle of coarse sea salt to the warm bars.
