Crock Pot Sloppy Joes

These sloppy sandwiches are so delicious and simple to whip together. Just add your ingredients into the slow cooker and just let it cook until dinner time. Not only can you go about your day while this recipe cooks to perfection, but the flavors are slowly infused into the meat making this recipe thick, rich, and savory.

Key Ingredients You’ll Need

Meat: I like to use lean ground beef and cooked bacon to add to it. However, you can use ground turkey or turkey bacon as a substitute. To make the meaty mixture a little thicker, I add oatmeal.

Vegetables: I like to add onions and green bell pepper for a pop of color and additional flavor.

BBQ Sauce: I use this to add a rich and smokey flavor along with brown sugar.

Onion Rings: Add these to your sandwich with slices of American cheese or any kind you prefer.

How To Make Rodeo Sloppy Joes

Step 1. Prepare the ground beef by cooking and draining the excess fat. Place into the slow cooker along with the cooked bacon, diced onion, bell pepper, water, oatmeal, BBQ sauce, and brown sugar. Mix until fully incorporated. Cook for 4-6 hours on low.

Adding the ingredients into the slow cooker.

Step 2. Season with salt and pepper. On the bottom of the bun, place a slice of cheese before adding a scoop of the mixture on top. Add 2 onion rings on top, serve, and enjoy!

What To Serve With Crockpot Sloppy Joes?

You can serve this dish with so many different sides. You can serve this recipe with chips, wheat thins, or fresh veggies. I also sometimes enjoy this recipe with heavier sides like potatoes, mac & cheese, rice, or just a nice salad. You can also serve this dish over rice or in potatoes instead of sandwiches.

Tips & Tricks

  • You can add in jalapenos, chiles, or spicy BBQ sauce for more spice.
  • Oatmeal will help thicken the recipe, and you won’t even be able to tell that it is in the recipe.
  • Store the leftover meat separately in an airtight container. You don’t want to keep them on the bread or else it will become soggy.
  • You can reheat in the microwave on high for about 1 min and add additional time as needed. Be sure to mix the meat every 30-seconds until reheated.
