What You’ll Need

Here are all the ingredients needed to make this savory sausage ball recipe. It’s incredibly easy! For exact measurements, scroll to the recipe card below.

  • Cheddar cheese: I love sharp cheddar cheese for this recipe. I find it adds the perfect flavor to the biscuit and sausage. You may use pepper jack cheese or any variety of shredded cheese you prefer.
  • Ground sausage: I use ground pork sausage. It’s not as strong as Italian sausage, but it adds the perfect savory flavor. You can substitute turkey sausage if you like.
  • Biscuit mix: Simple Bisquick mix works perfectly here. Most quick mixes only require milk or water.
  • Milk: I like the fat and moisture milk adds to the sausage balls. It keeps them perfectly fluffy in the middle.
  • Dried chives: This adds a subtle onion flavor to the recipe that I enjoy. It doesn’t overpower the sausage and cheese.

How to Make Sausage Balls with Bisquick

Preparing and baking these sausage balls only takes four steps. In a total time of about 35 minutes, they will be ready to eat!

  • Prep the oven and baking sheet. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • Combine the ingredients. Add the cheddar cheese, ground sausage, biscuit, milk, and chives to a large bowl. Stir until the mixture is well combined.
  • Form and bake. Using a cookie scoop divide and roll the sausage mixture into 24 1-inch balls. Place them on the pan and bake them in a preheated oven for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown.
  • Serve. It’s best to enjoy the sausage cheese balls warm!

Tips & Variations

  • Make a dipping sauce. Dip these in ranch dressing or make a sauce like Homemade Cheese Sauce or Copycat Chick-fil-A sauce.
  • Make it ahead. This is the perfect recipe to prepare ahead of time so you can save some work when you’re ready to eat.
  • Shred the cheese yourself. Pre-shredded cheese has less moisture so I always recommend shredding cheese when possible.
  • Variation – change up the Bisquick using Red Lobster Bisquick for these Cheddar Bay Sausage Balls.

Proper Storage

Leftover sausage balls should be stored in an airtight container or a resealable bag in the fridge for 2-3 days. To make the outside crispy again, reheat them in the microwave or the oven.

To freeze them, place them in a freezer bag for 2-3 months. Thaw them in the refrigerator overnight before reheating them for best results.

    1. Yes and although good I thought it was a little dry. Next time I won’t add the full 2 cups.
