Making your own spices at home is really easy. It may seem simpler to just buy a packet but the thing about making them homemade, is that once you’ve got it mixed you can use it over and over! All you need to do is measure out the spices, mix together and store.

Turns out, when I started looking into making all of my own seasonings, that I had most of the ingredients already in my kitchen. My guess is that you have most of these ingredients, too!

Taco Seasoning

Ingredients You Will Need:

  • Chili powder
  • Paprika
  • Ground cumin
  • Onion powder
  • Garlic powder
  • Cayenne pepper
  • Oregano
  • Salt & Pepper
  • Crushed red pepper – optional

Ingredients You Will Need:

Cajun Seasoning

Homemade Seasoning Blends

Learn how to easily make your own homemade seasoning blends right at home.

Ingredients
  

Fajita Seasoning

  • 1 tablespoon chili powder
  • 2 teaspoons ground cumin
  • 2 teaspoons smoked paprika
  • 2 teaspoons garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon granulated sugar
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • ½ teaspoon kosher salt
  • ¼ teaspoon cayenne pepper

Cajun Seasoning

  • 2 ½ tablespoons paprika
  • 2 tablespoons salt
  • 2 tablespoons garlic powder
  • 1 tablespoon black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon onion powder
  • 1 tablespoon cayenne pepper
  • 1 tablespoon dried oregano
  • 1 tablespoon dried thyme

Old Bay Seasoning

  • 2 Tablespoons Celery Salt
  • 1 tablespoon Paprika
  • 1 teaspoon Cayenne
  • 1 teaspoon Black Pepper
  • 1 teaspoon Garlic Powder
  • 1 teaspoon Onion Powder
  • ¼ teaspoon Ground mustard seed
  • teaspoon Ginger
  • teaspoon Allspice
  • teaspoon Ground Nutmeg
  • 3 Bay leaves

Instructions

  • Stir all the ingredients together and pour into an air-tight container.

  1. for the Old Bay Seasoning, do you just put the 3 bay leaves in the air tight container or do you grind them up?

  2. In your reply to Janice’s question about amount to use per recipe you said “to taste” essentially, but could you provide a starting amt with others as you did with the Taco seasoning. (ie approx 2 Tblsp per pound of meat)

    1. Hi Michael. 2 tablespoons of the taco seasoning is equivalent to 1 packet of store-bought taco seasoning.

    This is the absolutely the best way to have your own seasoning blends!!!! I’ve been making my own Taco Seasoning for approximently 25yrs due to food allergies with my children. Thank you for all of the Spice Blend Recipes. I really appreciate them. I was wondering though, is it 2TBSP Seasoning per recipe, like the Taco one, or is there a different quantity per Recipe??
