The Best Apple Taquitos Recipe
We are always looking for fun ways to use apple pie filling and these taquitos have become a favorite in our house. These apple pie taquitos are great for Fall, Cinco de Mayo or any time of year! Make them for a delicious treat taco night or an easy dessert for the Holidays.
Ingredients Needed
Just a few staple ingredients is all you need!
- Apples: I like to peel, core, and dice my apples into small pieces.
- Sugar: You will need brown sugar for richness and granulated sugar for sweetness.
- Spices: I like to use a combination of cinnamon, nutmeg, and allspice.
- Cornstarch: This will help thicken the mixture.
- Tortillas: I use small flour tortillas, but you can use bigger ones.
How To Make Apple Pie Taquitos
Simply make the apple pie filling, fill the tortillas and bake until golden!
- Prepare the filling. Add the filling ingredients into a medium-sized frying pan and toss to combine. Set to medium heat and cook for 10-15 minutes. Add the apple mixture to the brown sugar sauce to evenly coat. Take off the heat and set aside until it reaches room temperature.
- Fill the tortillas. Set the oven to 350 degrees. Add the sugar and cinnamon into a small bowl and combine using a whisk. Place the tortillas in a damp paper towel and place in the microwave for 30 seconds. Arrange the tortillas flat onto a cookie sheet and add about 1/4 cup of the apple mixture into the middle of each tortilla. Wrap and place the seam side down on the sheet. Continue with the rest of the tortillas.
- Bake the tortillas. Add the butter into a small bowl and melt for 30 seconds in the microwave. Use a pastry brush to brush each tortilla. Place in the preheated oven for 15 minutes. Once done, add more butter on top and sprinkle with the sugar-cinnamon mixture. Top with caramel sauce, serve, and enjoy!
Storing Leftovers
Any leftovers should be stored in an airtight container and placed in the fridge for up to 4-5 days.
Tips & Tricks
- Apples – Gala or granny smith apples are great for this recipe. You can also use pink lady apples as well. Either way, this recipe will turn out incredible.
- Tortillas – You can use small, medium, or large tortillas.
- Serving – I love enjoying these with vanilla ice cream, whipped cream, or cinnamon whipped cream on top. Dipping these in homemade caramel sauce takes this recipe over the top!
- Apple Filling – to save some time, use store-bought canned apple pie filling instead of homemade apple filling.
