Here’s what you’ll need to make these delicious orange cake mix cream cheese cookies (the exact measurements and full recipe instructions are below in the printable recipe card):
- Orange cake mix
- Cream cheese
- Butter
- Egg
- Orange extract
- Orange food coloring (optional)
- White chocolate chips
- Powdered sugar
How To Make Orange Cookies
Mix up the cookie dough by first beating together the butter, cream cheese, egg, and orange flavor extract with an electric mixer. Add the orange cake mix and beat with the mixer to combine. At this point you can also add some orange food coloring to bump up the orange color. If you don’t have orange coloring, use one part red to two parts yellow.
Next, mix in the white chocolate chips. Cover the dough and chill it in the refrigerator for 30 minutes.
We used a cookie scoop to form 24 cookie balls. Roll each in powdered sugar.
Place the cookie dough balls on parchment paper lined cookie sheets. You can also add a few extra white chocolate chips to the top of each cookie.
Bake the cookies at 350ºF for 12-13 minutes, then remove to cool on a wire cooling rack.
Enjoy your Orange Creamsicle Cake Mix Cookies with an ice cold glass of milk on a warm summer day… or any time!
Can I Leave Out the White Chocolate Chips?
If you don’t have white chocolate chips or don’t prefer them, you can absolutely make this recipe without them. Just skip that ingredient but otherwise make the cookies as directed.
Lemon Variation
If this cookie recipe sounds great to you but you want to try it a different way, go for lemon! Just swap out the orange cake mix and extract for lemon cake mix and extract. You’ll also want to use just a little yellow food coloring instead of orange.

So easy and yummy!
Easy recipe for an absolutely DELICIOUS cookie. The recipe made more than 24 cookies. How big were the cookie balls supposed to be?
This recipe is just incredible. Easy to make and the best flavor.
Our County Fair had a category of “TRICKS WITH A MIX”, so I did your Orange Creamsicle Cookies. They won First Place!! I tried to attach the photo but it wouldn’t let me do it here. My husband loved these cookies. Thank you for posting the recipe and if I could, I would send the blue ribbon to you.
That’s awesome Kristen! Congrats!
I made these last night and brought some to work. They were a HIT!!!
Loved these cookies. I did half the recipe. As dough warmed it got sticky so I put it back in refrigerator for 30 minutes. Then finished.
Thank you for that tip because mine got sticky but I did t know what to do, im going to make them again
These were perfect. I added a little more extract.
The cookies are really good. Thanks for sharing the recipe. I as others, did have trouble finding the cake mix. I just ordered it on amazon. I also had to bake mine A bit longer, because they where not cooked thru. I will definitely make these again, and try the other flavors. Thanks again.
Made these and they were very good. Had a hard time finding orange cake mix but managed. I might try lemon or strawberry next. I’m sure your family will like them.
These are WONDERFUL!!! I ordered orange cake mix from Amazon, but will use the suggested yellow cake mix with extra orange extract and jello for future batches. Very light and the flavor is spot on!! This is definitely going on my list of favorites!!
Total hit! I doubled the extract and used the entire 11 ounce bag of white chocolate chips. Everyone wants the recipe!!!
These cookies are heaven on earth! So delicious. My family is always asking for them. Asolutely love these cookies.
After making these a few times, I’ve hit on a few things I changed. Added 1 1/2 cups macadamia nuts. Eliminated the dusting of powdered sugar as the cookies are sweet enough and avoids the mess.
For folks in the Cincinnati area…. After striking out at all local markets for the cake mix, I found that Jungle Jim’s carries it all the time!
These are the BEST cookies! I made a batch two weeks ago and everyone raved about them. I made another batch a few days ago and my workmates love them.
Unbelievable how good these are! I have made them twice now and plan on trying different flavors such as lemon, lime and pineapple. Great recipe!
The lemon are amazing
I made these cookies for Memorial and especially for my moms birthday. She loved them and she is a picky eater. The recipe is easy and the cookies are delicious. I used a vanilla cake mix and added the orange extract. Thanks for the recipe
I use 2 teaspoons of orange extract, white cake mix with zest from 2 oranges. So good……
Very very very good cookie. I don’t add food coloring and use white cake mix with a total of 2 teaspoons of orange extract. Damn good cookie!
These are absolutely deliscious! Family is always asking for them. Great cookie!
These cookies are so delicious. The only thing I would do is add more orange extract as I couldn’t find a orange cake mix.
These cookies are out of this world… cakey yet a tiny crunch outside! Couldn’t find orange cake mix so I used a white cake mix and bumped up the orange extract to 1 1/2 tsp… LOVE THESE!!
These were the best cookies I’ve ever made. The recipe was easy and very accurate. I am going to explore your page for more.
Thanks Quanesha!

*****
Easy to make and delicious. They taste like frost loops!
I made these with a few chocolate chips and a lot of cream cheese flavored chips. I’m not a fan of white chocolate. So good!
Love this recipe, and made them several times, and they are always a huge hit. For the holidays, I wasn’t able to find the orange cake mix, so I decided to use the carrot cake mix,, They came out amazing, and I ended up adding a 1/2 cup of coconut! Thanks so much for this recipe idea..
I make these every Christmas – always requested by family and friends. I do add orange zest to make it more orangey. Delicious!
Ive made these for a couple of years now and they’re such a huge hit !!
I made about 12 dozen for my daughters wedding and they went quickly So very easy to make & they taste great !!
FANTASTIC COOKIE
Made these for my Halloween party, did the orange, lemon and strawberry, they were all a big hit. Today I’m going to use a chocolate cake mix, I want to try with mint extract but not everyone is a fan. Maybe almond extract, or even keeping the orange yum.
I love this recipe because it’s so easy to change up and let your imagine run wild.
Can you switch out for the Red Velvet Perfectly Moist cake mix with the same ingredients (cream cheese etc
Dawn, sure but you may want to omit the orange extract and food coloring.
These were a huge hit. I absolutely loved them, as did everyone else.
I also did a Strawberry citrus variant, using strawberry cake mix, but keeping the orange extract. Both turned out great (I might have even liked the strawberry more!)
Thanks for the great recipe.
Oh my! These were so delicious! They are a blend of cookie, cake, and cheesecake! I will definitely be making them again!
Everyone said ewe but they tried them and said yum They were Definitely a hit
Are They Soft and Chewy?
After having a craving for “Orange Kreamsicle” cookies that I would occasionally find in MRE’s, while I was deployed overseas, I wanted to try and find something similar I could make.
It was the highlight of my day when I found a pack of them. I made a double batch of these and was blown away. They’re so tasty. Puts my little vacuum sealed dry cookies to shame!
I will definitely be making these again and again.
I love this recipe. Can you freeze the cookies to use at a later date ?
Hey Maggie, they are always better fresh but we freeze a lot of our cookies and they still taste great.
I baked these today. I used a 1 ½ inch scoop that is a bit less than one ounce resulting in 47 cookies. After scooping and rolling into a ball, I put them back into the fridge to keep them cold and firm. I rolled them in powdered sugar right before baking. They don’t spread very much, so I was able to put 12 per pan. I only baked one pan at a time and didn’t rotate. Some I rolled in powdered sugar, some I didn’t. I felt they were good either way. Next time, I will add some chopped macadamia nuts or chopped pecans.
Very good I’ve made these cookies 3 times now. I’ve done the orange, lemon and strawberry. My favorite is the orange.
Made this recipe last night and cannot rave enough about them!!! The flavor is spot on for the old fashioned push pops we always ate as kids. My husband and daughters loved these so much I wasn’t sure there would be any left when I woke up this morning. I know this will be a recipe that will be repeated. Also couldn’t find the orange cake mix so used the previous suggestion about doubling the orange extract and adding half a packet of orange jello to yellow cake mix.. DELICIOUS
My daughter just loves these cookies and wanted me to try them. I’m unfortunately gluten free so we had to modify the recipe. We used 3/4 of a box of King Arthur’s gluten free yellow cake mix. The dough was a bit dry so we added 1 TBSP of water. We also couldn’t find the orange cake mix, so we used Sandra’s tip, doubled the extract and added a half a packet of the powdered jello. 15 minutes at 350 F and they were perfect.
Great flavor and a bit of nostalgia! My Dad used to always have creamsicles in the freezer for my kids. The kids are grown now and no longer live at home so I made these cookies and mailed them off. They loved them. Instead of tracking down orange cake mix I just went ahead and used the yellow and added a bit more orange extract.
My husband’s aunt sent me this for a cookie exchange at school. They were SO easy to make and were a HUGE hit! thank you so much!
Made some today with banana cake mix and banana extract. Delicious!!
Made these cookies using lemon cake mix for church. Out of the 7 different types of cookies these by far were the most requested.
These cookies were a big hit for a family get together. I’ll be making these again for sure.
Made these with white cake mix, orange extract and fresh orange zest and juice. Followed the recipe otherwise. These were great! Loved the taste. They were a little cakey of course, but tasted fabulous. My husband and I both enjoyed them and will make them again.
Yes
I found orange cake mix at Food Lion
also chips were on sale
This recipe is an incredible hit & reminds me of my childhood summers! I’ve made 5 batches since mid June due to kids/friends request.
Has anyone tried it with strawberry cake mix?
yes… DELICIOUS ADD CHOCOLATE CHIPS AND YOUR HAVE A CHOCOLATE DIPPED STRAWBERRY IN COOKIE FORM (EXCUSE THE CAPS, UNINTENTIONAL)
I made The creamsicle cookies with 2 of my granddaughters. They had a great time and the cookies were amazing!!
1/2 way through and found I needed to add an additional 1/2 teaspoon of extract to the lemon variation.
I have used white cake mix with extra orange/lemon/strawberry extract, add enough for your taste.
I used yellow cake mix and added orange extract.
I have made these three times and making a double recipe today. Three people have asked me for the recipe they freeze well too. They are delicious
I was unable to find Orange flavored cake mix anywhere. I know years ago Duncan Heinz had it. I made a batch with strawberry and lemon, but really wanted orange. Who carries Orange flavored cake mix in Southern, IN?
Made these today look great but some are very soft even baked longer than 13 minutes
any suggestions
Check your oven temperature. Mine is off by 25 degrees so I have to adjust temp and time accordingly.
I made the lemon variation of these cookies and baked them longer than the time mentioned and they stayed way too soft for my liking as well. Any suggestions to get them to bake a little harder. The taste was awesome but just to soft
Very hard to find Duncan Hinz orange cake mix. I found the Alma brand at Walmart we will see how it works and tastes.
That is what I use. Alma orange cake mix and it works.
I have looked EVERYWHERE, for a orange cake mix!!! Can’t fine one anywhere….. HELP !!!!!
Publix has both orange and lemon by Duncan Hines
Had to buy the orange mix on Walmart.com it came the very next day!
Best cookies ever! I made the orange and the lemon.
I couldn’t find it so I used double the orange extract with white cake mix and half a pack of orange jello powder…..baked my cookies for 15 min on 350…….Amazing!
Let me know recipe I did not find orange cake mix and walmart nor other stores. Ps walmart does not deliver in my area
Thank you for this option. We don’t have anywhere near me which sells orange cake mix and I absolutely refuse to pay the amount online stores including Wal-Mart is asking for one box. We used to be able to find this cake mix everywhere. I’m glad to know there is something else to use.
I found the cake mix at big lots
Use white cake mic and add orange extract
My great grandkids and I made these and the orange was good but liked the lemon best
