Quick & Easy Fried Ravioli

Fried ravioli (or toasted ravioli) is always one of my favorite appetizers to order at Olive Garden or any other Italian restaurant. Ravioli itself is tasty but add some seasoned breading and deep fry until crispy…it’s beyond good! If you want to skip deep frying to air fry, try our Air Fryer Toasted Ravioli.

For this easy fried ravioli recipe, we’re starting with prepared cheese ravioli. You can use fresh or frozen or even make it yourself if you want. I tend to use frozen just to keep things easy, though it does need to be thawed first.

Fifteen minutes later, warm up some marinara sauce for dipping and you have an appetizer everyone will be fighting over.

What You’ll Need

This easy fried ravioli recipe is made with just 4 main ingredients for a quick appetizer anytime. See the recipe card below for measurements.

  • Cheese ravioli – Fresh or frozen will both work. If you’re using frozen ravioli, make sure they’re defrosted first.
  • Bread crumbs – I used Italian style breadcrumbs for the additional flavor but you can add some Italian seasoning to regular bread crumbs or panko style bread crumbs too.
  • Parmesan cheese – Freshly grated from the block will provide the best flavor and melt the best.
  • Salt & pepper – For extra seasoning.
  • Egg – Helps the breading stick to the ravioli.
  • Water
  • Vegetable oil – Or any preferred neutral frying oil.

How to Make Fried Ravioli

Here’s how to make toasted ravioli at home in just a few easy steps.

  • Prepare the breading and egg mixtures. Combine the bread crumbs, cheese, salt, and pepper in one shallow dish (or bowl). In another, whisk together the egg and water.
  • Dip the ravioli. Dip each ravioli in the egg mixture then press into the bread crumbs. Set on a wire rack while the oil preheats to 350F.
  • Fry the ravioli. Fry the ravioli in a large pan in batches, for about 1.5 to 2 minutes each. Be sure to turn halfway. Transfer to a wire rack (or paper towel) to cool and repeat with the remaining batches.
  • Enjoy. Serve garnished with grated parmesan and fresh parsley, with marinara sauce for dipping.

Tips & Variations

Here are a few key things to keep in mind when making deep fried ravioli, as well as a few variations.

  • Make sure the oil properly preheats. The oil should be hot so that the ravioli start cooking immediately. Otherwise, they won’t brown or crisp up properly.
  • Be aware they cook quickly. It takes just 2 minutes or so for each batch of toasted ravioli to cook in a single layer, so once you start frying these it goes quickly.
  • Allow to drain on a wire rack. A wire rack allows any excess oil to drip off, so the ravioli stay nice and crisp.
  • Try other types of ravioli. I used regular cheese ravioli but this recipe will work with any variety, like cheese and spinach, pesto, mushroom, or even meat-filled ravioli.

What to Serve with Fried Ravioli

Fried ravioli are typically served with warm marinara sauce for dipping. Ranch dressing or your other favorite dipping sauces are great as well.

They’re always a hit at parties and also make a nice appetizer for any Italian-inspired dinner, like chicken parmesan or pasta. You could also add a side salad and turn the ravioli itself into a meal.

How to Store & Reheat Leftovers

  • Fridge. Store any leftover fried ravioli in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days.
  • Reheat. Reheat leftovers in the air fryer or oven until heated through.

Can I Freeze Toasted Ravioli?

Yep! Once your fried ravioli have come to room temperature, flash freeze them on a baking sheet then transfer to a freezer-safe container. Freeze for up to 3 months.

You can reheat frozen fried ravioli in the oven or air fryer, directly from the freezer.
