Million Dollar Ravioli Casserole

If you are searching for a simple and comforting dinner, this ravioli casserole should be added to your list. My kids love pasta, and this recipe has quickly become one of their favorites. It’s unique to a typical spaghetti and meatballs so it helps give us a little bit of variety in our dinner rotation. The creamy, cheesy filling adds amazing texture, while the sausage adds the perfect savory flavor to the sauce. The best part is that the only real prep involved is cooking the sausage. Once it is mixed, the oven does the rest of the work!

Why You’ll Love This Ravioli Casserole

  • Easy to make. This is the perfect quick and easy dinner for any night of the week.
  • Versatile recipe. You can easily switch up the flavors of the ingredients to suit your whole family.
  • Budget-friendly. Since this meal is inexpensive to make, it fits even the tightest budget.

What You’ll Need

Below are all of the ingredients to make a delicious baked ravioli casserole. It’s saucy, cheesy, and everything you want in a tasty meal!

  • Italian sausage: I chose a mild ground Italian sausage for this recipe. Hot and sweet are great varieties as well. Feel free to make this recipe with your favorite.
  • Spaghetti sauce: Any brand and flavor of spaghetti sauce is perfect. Make it homemade, too! I have this recipe for Easy Marinara Sauce that tastes great with the ravioli.
  • Cottage cheese, cream cheese, and sour cream: I combined these creamy components with ravioli. Ricotta is a great substitute for cottage cheese, and Greek yogurt may be used instead of sour cream. It’s up to you!
  • Garlic powder: I like adding some garlic to the cheese mixture for extra flavor.
  • Cheeses: I use grated parmesan and shredded mozzarella in this recipe. The parmesan is stirred into the cheese mixture for a sharp flavor, and the mozzarella is melted on top of the casserole.
  • Frozen ravioli: Use any variety of cheese ravioli that you like! I prefer to use a cheese blend or spinach and cheese. Pick your favorite!
  • Parsley: Chopped parsley is a great fresh garnish. Don’t worry, it’s optional.

How to Make Baked Ravioli Casserole

Here are the directions for making ravioli casserole. This recipe is super simple to prepare and can even be made ahead of time!

  • Prepare the oven and baking dish. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F and spray a 9×13 inch pan with non-stick spray.
  • Brown and drain the sausage. Heat a medium skillet and brown the sausage. Drain any excess fat from the pan.
  • Add the sauce. Stir in the spaghetti sauce and remove it from the heat.
  • Make the cheese mixture. Add cottage cheese, cream cheese, sour cream, garlic powder, and parmesan to a large mixing bowl. Mix until well combined.
  • Add the ravioli. Stir in the ravioli and ensure the pasta is fully coated.
  • Transfer components to the baking dish. Pour the cheesy ravioli into the bottom of the casserole dish and ensure they are spread evenly. Next, add the sausage and sauce mixture on top. Spread that evenly as well.
  • Top with mozzarella. Sprinkle the shredded mozzarella cheese on top, covering all of the sauce.
  • Bake. Place the pan in the preheated oven and bake the ravioli casserole for 45 minutes until the cheese is melted and bubbly. Leave it uncovered as it bakes.
  • Garnish and serve. Sprinkle it with freshly chopped parsley and enjoy!

Serving Ideas

Serve this ravioli dish with Cheesy Garlic Bread or Olive Garden Breadsticks to dip in the extra sauce.

Make a side salad such as Wedge Salad or Broccoli Sprout Salad to help cut the richness.

Tips for Success

  • Drain all the fat from the sausage. If you leave any grease behind, it will negatively affect the texture of the pasta sauce.
  • Let it cool. Allow the casserole to cool completely before storing the leftovers.
  • Try it with tortellini. This recipe is so good with tortellini, too. Try it with your favorite variety!

Proper Storage

Store leftovers of this ravioli casserole in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.

Reheat it in the microwave or uncovered in a 350 degrees F oven until warm.
