Ingredients You’ll Need

  • Butter– Use unsalted butter to control the amount of salt in the recipe.
  • Sugar– Every great dessert recipe uses sugar in it.
  • Vanilla– Use pure vanilla for the best flavoring.
  • Egg– Use this at room temperature.

How to Make Strawberry Sugar Cookies

Follow these steps to make perfect soft and chewy strawberry sugar cookies topped with glossy strawberry glaze.

  • Make the cookie dough. First, add the butter, sugar, vanilla, and egg into a bowl and combine. Secondly, pour in the flour, baking powder, salt, and baking soda and combine.
  • Portion the cookies. Use parchment paper to line a baking sheet and use the scooper to roll 2-inch cookie balls and arrange them 2 inches apart, onto the prepared sheet.
  • Bake. Bake the sugar cookies at 350ºF for 9-10 minutes, or until the edges are lightly browned. Allow the cookies to rest for five minutes on the baking sheet before placing them onto a wire rack.
  • Make the glaze. Meanwhile, heat water and sugar in a saucepan until the sugar dissolves. Mash up the strawberries and add them to the simple syrup. Let the strawberries simmer on low for 7 minutes. After, let the strawberry syrup cool before combining it with the powdered sugar and vanilla to make the glaze.
  • Glaze the cookies. Use a spoon to drizzle the glaze over the top of each cookie. Allow the glaze to set until it’s hardened. If you’d like, finish these strawberry sugar cookies with a dusting of powdered sugar.

Tips for Success

Having a chewy sugar cookie will require a few tips to make the perfect texture and softness.

  • Don’t overbake. When making a sugar cookie, a big factor in finding a great texture is by watching how long you bake it.
  • Use the right ingredients. For chewy sugar cookies with the best flavor, make sure to use white granulated sugar and unsalted butter.
  • Thin out the glaze. If the strawberry glaze is too thick, add some water or lemon juice to thin it out. If it’s too thin, add a bit of powdered sugar.

Do I Need to Chill the Dough?

For this cookie recipe, you do not need to chill the dough. However, if you’re making the sugar cookie dough ahead of time, you can wrap it tightly in plastic wrap and place it in the fridge for up to 3 days.
