The Best Bagels Filled with Cream Cheese

I love a toasted bagel slathered with cream cheese! This recipe takes a classic to a whole new level. The cream cheese is warm and extra creamy and the garlic butter on top adds texture AND flavor. I have made these for breakfast and even my husband and kiddos agree that they are super yummy. So much better than the stuffed bagel bites you get from the store. My favorite part is the golden crispy crust that the bagels get on the outside — it’s addictive!

Recipe Ingredients

Here are all of the components needed to make these viral bagels stuffed with cream cheese. Scroll down to the recipe card to find the exact measurements you’ll need.

  • Bagels: I used plain bagels for this recipe. I recommend using ones that aren’t sliced so they are easy to cut and they don’t fall apart.
  • Cream cheese: Take out the cream cheese and leave it at room temperature for about 30 minutes to soften. This will make it easier to spoon it into the bagels.
  • Sugar: I add some sugar to the cream cheese for a little sweetness to balance out the savory flavors of the other ingredients.
  • Butter: To get a perfect golden color, I melt butter and add garlic and herbs to it.
  • Seasoning: I chose fresh parsley, Italian seasoning, and Everything Bagel blend to keep it simple yet flavorful. I love the texture of the sesame seeds and poppy seeds along with the cream cheese.
  • Garlic: I like fresh minced garlic for flavor and texture. If you like, use garlic powder instead.
  • Parmesan cheese: The sharp parmesan is the perfect way to finish these cheesy bagels.

How to Make Cream Cheese Stuffed Bagels

Here are the directions to make this creative take on classic bagels and cream cheese. The steps are fairly easy to follow and take minimal time.

  • Prep the oven and baking sheet. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • Slice the bagels. Slice your bagel into 6 equal pieces without slicing all the way through.
  • Make filling and stuff the bagels. Combine the cream cheese and sugar in a medium bowl. Then, spoon the cream cheese mixture into the slices of each bagel.
  • Melt the butter and seasoning. Add the butter, parsley, Italian seasoning, minced garlic, and everything bagel seasoning to a small microwave-safe bowl. Heat in the microwave in 30-second intervals until the butter is fully melted.
  • Add cheese and brush on the bagels. Stir the parmesan cheese into the melted garlic butter and brush it generously over the top of the bagels.
  • Bake. Put the pan in the oven and bake the bagels for 8-12 minutes or until the cheese is melted and the tops are golden brown.
  • Serve. Enjoy them as a quick breakfast!

Tips and Variations

  • Make them in the air fryer. You may cook these bagels in the air fryer at 350 degrees F for 10 minutes.
  • Try different seasonings. Try dried rosemary and thyme or cinnamon sugar for a sweet option
  • Try different cream cheese. Garlic or onion cream cheese is great for this recipe.
  • Try a flavored bagel. Use an onion bagel for even more onion flavor or a blueberry bagel if you go sweet.
