Berry Cobbler

Berry Cobbler Recipe

This Berry Cobbler is a very simple and easy recipe that is just so good! This recipe includes a blend of blackberries, strawberries, and blueberries for a sweet and tart variety of fruit. The berries are topped with a crumble that is very quick to make and then, placed in the oven for just 30 minutes to bake to perfection. This Cobbler recipe is so amazing that I recommend trying out other cobbler recipes like this Magic Lemon Cobbler or this Best Ever Pumpkin Cobbler.

  • Butter- Use unsalted butter to control the amount of salt in the recipe.
  • Brown Sugar- This will add richness to the recipe.
  • Vanilla extract- Use pure vanilla for the best flavoring.

What Makes this a Cobbler?

A cobbler dessert is a very simple dessert. What makes the dessert a cobbler is the flavoring of fruit or berries as the base of the recipe. Then, this recipe is topped with a delicious dough crumble to add texture.

Does This Cobbler Have a Bottom Crust?

The cobbler does not have a bottom crust. The berries are mixed with lemon juice and cornstarch and placed in the baking dish. The top crumble is all that could be considered a crust.

I made this last Thanksgiving and it was amazing! Im going to make it again this year but I also want to make a second batch for individual single serve sizes but I’m unsure of the cooking time, do you have any suggestions or advice?

    1. Jill says:

Thanks Jackie! Depending on the size of the individual ramekins you use the bake time will likely be closer to 20 minutes.

I doubled the recipe to fit a deep dish 9×13 pan. Probably did not have to double the topping, but now have some left over to make another smaller version! The topping is so good. Only change I made was to add 2/3 cup of sugar to the berries. Made for a group and all gave a thumbs up, saying “this one’s a keeper!”

    1. Jill says:

      Thank you Charmaine!

Best cobbler I’ve made, by far! If I wanted to make it for after a gathering, would you suggest I prep it ahead of time and bake when needed. Or bake first and then reheat? If reheat, what’s the best way to keep the crispness on top? Thanks for an awesome recipe

    1. Jill says:

Thanks Heather! I think the best way would be to prep everything and keep the topping separated until ready and the bake when needed.

  4. Angie says:

Can you substitute Bisquick for the flour, cornstarch, salt mixture?

    1. Jill says:

Hi Angie. Yes, Bisquick would work as a substitute.

Can ingredients be doubled to work for a 9×13 pan?

    1. Jill says:

Hi Jill. It may be a little much for a 9×13 but it will be close. You may need to cut down on the fruit slightly.

I love this recipe and have made it many times!

Is it possible to make it with frozen berries?

    1. Jill says:

Thanks Mary! Yes, frozen will work well as a substitute.

Love your recipe, but change it a bit. I use 1/2 of the sugar in the berry mixture and I double the fruit (fresh or frozen)for a 9×13. Add a good dash of cinnamon and it’s incredible! I pretty make it for every family event. Also, I’m a Jill and have 3 boys 🙂

    1. Jill says:

Sounds delicious! Thank you Jill…and three sons too!
