With a smooth, creamy filling in an Oreo crust, this Chocolate Pudding Pie is made in just 15 minutes with 5 ingredients and 0 cooking or baking. Perfect for summer gatherings and holidays alike!

Chocolate pudding pie is a no-bake classic that I’ve been enjoying my entire life. It’s always been one of my favorites. As much as I love a good chocolate cream pie, there’s just something extra wonderful about a pie that requires no cooking or baking. Five ingredients, a bowl, and a pie pan. That’s really all you need to whip this one. It’s one of my favorite pies to make in the summer for that reason.
Why This Is The Best Chocolate Pudding Pie Recipe
Here are a few of the reasons I make this pie over and over again.
- No cooking (or baking). Both the pie filling and the Oreo cookie crust are completely no-bake. To make things better, I use instant chocolate pudding mix which also means no cooking.
- Only 5 ingredients. There are two ingredients in the crust and two in the filling, plus Cool Whip as a topping. It’s really that easy!
- Less than 15 minutes of prep. Since there’s no cooking or baking required, it takes less than 15 minutes to prepare this chocolate pudding pie. Just keep in mind that it does need to chill for at least 3 hours before serving.
- The Oreo crust! Some chocolate pudding pie recipes use a graham cracker crust, which is certainly an option, but I went for a simple Oreo crust. It adds even more chocolate flavor to the dessert and is so easy to make!

What You’ll Need
Yes, there really are only 5 ingredients needed to make this pie! Here’s a run-down of each one. The exact measurements can be found in the recipe card below.
- Oreo cookies – Crushed, to form the crust. Use regular Oreos, not the double stuffed type.
- Melted butter – Helps hold the Oreo crumbs together to form the crust.
- Chocolate pudding mix – It’s important to use instant pudding, not cook-and-serve for this recipe. Some boxes of instant chocolate pudding also say pie mix on the box now.
- Whole milk – Keep it refrigerated until adding it to the recipe. I would not use skim milk, though 2% is probably fine. Whole milk will give a richer pudding texture.
- Whipped topping – Such as Cool Whip, for topping. Make sure it’s thawed!
How To Make Chocolate Pudding Pie
It takes just a few minutes to prep this chocolate pie. Just remember to allow for plenty of chill time!

- Make the pie crust. Combine the crushed Oreos and melted butter until the mixture looks like wet sand. Press the mixture evenly into the bottom and up the sides of the pie pan. Set aside.
- Make the chocolate pudding filling. Whisk the pudding mix and cold milk for 2 minutes or so, until smooth and thickened. Pour into the crust. Smooth the top with a spatula.

- Add the topping. Spread the Cool Whip over the pudding. Top with chocolate shavings if desired.
- Chill. Refrigerate for at least 3 hours, until the pudding is completely set and cold. Slice and enjoy!

Tips & Variations
Here are a few quick tips for this recipe and ways to switch it up.
- Try a different crust. Swap Oreo cookies for graham cracker crumbs or chocolate wafer cookies if needed. A store-bought crust could also work.
- Press the crust firmly. Firmly press the Oreo mixture into the pan, paying special attention to the edges so the crust holds well after cutting.
- Instant pudding only. Instant pudding mix is essential for this recipe. Avoid using cook-and-serve pudding, as it will not set the same.
- Chill overnight. Chocolate pudding pie sets in as little as three hours but I prefer to make this the night before to give the pudding extra time to set. If you try to serve it before it’s fully set, the pudding will spill everywhere.

Serving Suggestions
As noted in the recipe, I like to top my chocolate pudding pie with a thick layer of Cool Whip and chocolate shavings. Another option is to allow everyone to add dollops of Cool Whip as they please when serving.
Besides chocolate shavings, try topping with crushed candy bars, mini chocolate chips, or a drizzle of caramel or chocolate syrup.
Proper Storage
Cover and store any leftover chocolate pudding pie in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Plastic wrap or an airtight container works well.
