Homemade Chocolate Syrup

As a child, I would constantly drown my pancakes or ice cream in syrup. It adds a sweet and rich flavor to all kinds of recipes and tastes absolutely delicious. This quick recipe only uses a handful of ingredients to make it and can be ready in no time!

Key Ingredients You’ll Need

Sugar: Use granulated sugar to sweeten the chocolate and salt to bring out the chocolatey flavor.

Cocoa Powder: Because we are using sugar in this recipe, you will need unsweetened cocoa powder. I prefer using Hershey’s brand for the best quality.

How To Make Chocolate Syrup

Step 1. Add sugar, cocoa powder, and salt into a medium saucepan and combine. Pour in the water and combine again. Set the heat to medium-high and cook. Stir the mixture regularly until it begins to boil. Turn the heat down to medium and allow it to cook for an additional 2 minutes mixing constantly.

Step 2. Take the pan away from the heat and add in the vanilla extract and mix to combine. Let the chocolate mixture cool before pouring it into a mason jar or bottle. Use right away or store for later. Enjoy!

What Can I Put Chocolate Syrup On?

I use to love using a recipe like this to drizzle on my pancakes or vanilla ice cream. You can also use it for waffles, french toast, donuts, brownies, pies, etc. Anything that needs a little more chocolate will benefit from this recipe.

How To Store:

This recipe can last a VERY long time! You could make a boatload of it and it will last around 1-2 years when stored properly. Look at the instructions below for the best way to store this recipe.

Place the remaining chocolate into an airtight container or mason jar with a lid. You can store the chocolate syrup at room temperature, in the fridge, or in the freezer. If it is placed in the freezer, it will last the longest and only need to be thawed or heated up to use.
