Halloween Muddy Buddies

I am always on the lookout for seasonal treats and goodies that are easy to make. This Chex Halloween mix recipe is one of the best around. It’s kid-friendly and requires no baking or chilling! As a parent, I often find myself without enough time during the school year to do any extra things, and since Halloween falls right in the second month of school, I like to keep everything short and sweet. We have had small Halloween get-togethers so the kids can show off their costumes and enjoy delicious treats and this puppy chow has become a staple.

Traditionally, puppy chow is made with only powdered sugar. I use half powdered sugar and half brownie mix. The powder sticks to the chocolate just as well but adds a delicious fudgy flavor that compliments the peanut butter.

Did you know that you aren’t limited to just Halloween? You can make all types of puppy chow inspired by other holidays! Some of my favorites are Easter Puppy Chow, Valentine Puppy Chow, and Reindeer Chow.

  • Butter: I recommend unsalted for
  • Vanilla Extract
  • Mini Pretzels: These should be slightly crushed.
  • Candy Corn: Regular candy corn, harvest corn, or mini pumpkins work.
  • Oreos: Slightly crush the Oreos to incorporate them into the snack mix.
  • Reese’s Pieces
  • Powdered Sugar
  • Brownie Mix: To add more chocolate flavor.

  • Step 4. Take two gallon-sized resealable bags and divide the cereal in half. Add the powdered sugar to one bag and the brownie mix to the other.
