The Ingredients
Here’s what you’ll need to make the Oreo Rice Krispie Treats (the exact measurements and full recipe instructions are below in the printable recipe card):
- Rice Krispies – I used a store brand “crispy rice” cereal and it was perfect. Use any brand you like.
- Oreo cookies – I used the regular Oreos, but the double stuffed could also work in this recipe.
- Butter
- Mini marshmallows – Please know that you may need 2 bags of marshmallows to have enough for this recipe.
- Salt
How to Make Oreo Rice Krispie Treats
Prepare a 9-inch square pan (for thicker rice krispie treats) or a 9×13-inch pan (for thinner rice krispie treats) by coating generously with butter; set aside. In a large mixing bowl, combine the Rice Krispies, chopped Oreos, and 1 cup of the marshmallows.
In a large pot, melt the butter over medium heat. Stir in the salt and remaining 8 cups of marshmallows. Stir constantly until the marshmallows are completely melted.
Pour the melted marshmallow mixture over the Rice Krispies mixture and gently stir until combined.
Spread the Oreo Rice Krispies mixture into the prepared pan and press gently to flatten the top.
Allow the Oreo Rice Krispie Treats to cool in the pan for about 30 minutes, then slice and serve.
These rice krispie treats will be just the right crunchy, dense, and slightly sticky texture. The Oreos add a delicious chocolate flavor.
Additions
In addition to the Oreos cookies, here are some other mix-in ideas:
- M&M’S – mini or regular
- Reese’s Pieces
- Chocolate chips – mini or regular
- Golden Oreos
- Dried cranberries
- Peanut butter chips
- White chocolate chips
- Colorful sprinkles
How to Store the Leftovers
Keep the rice krispie treats in an airtight food storage container or a zip-top bag. They will stay fresh at room temperature for up to a week. Refrigerating the krispie treats will make them very hard, so if you need to keep them in the refrigerator, be sure to let them come to room temperature again before serving.
