We love dessert mashups so much. Taking two of my favorite sweet treats and mashing them together is fun and that’s exactly what I did to make these pecan pie brownies. They’re so tasty!

Why You’ll Love These Pecan Pie Brownies

My favorite is OBSESSED with these brownies. Here are a few reasons why.

  • Two desserts in one. You really get the best of both worlds with these brownies – chewy, fudgy brownies and sweet topping similar to the one in my pecan pie recipe.
  • Made with a brownie mix. I’ve said it so many times, but I love taking a boxed brownie or cake mix and taking it to a new level. This recipe transforms a basic boxed brownie mix into an unforgettable dessert by simply adding a layer of pecan pie on top.
  • Easy to make. Since we’re starting with a brownie mix, this recipe has both a short ingredient list AND only a few steps to prepare. You can make the pecan filling while the brownies are in the oven, keeping the prep time next and short too.

Recipe Ingredients

Since these pecan pie brownies begin with a boxed brownie mix, the ingredients list is short and sweet. Scroll down to the recipe card below for measurements.

  • Brownie mix – I used triple chocolate fudge boxed brownies (that include chocolate chips) for this recipe, but you can use our delicious homemade brownie recipe. You’ll also need the ingredients listed on the package to make the brownies.
  • Granulated sugar
  • Light corn syrup – Corn syrup helps to create the thick, sticky texture on the pecan pie filling.
  • Eggs
  • Butter – Adds a bit of extra richness to the pecan filling.
  • Vanilla extract
  • Pecans – I prefer them chopped into small pieces but you can leave them halved or roughly chopped if you prefer.

How To Make Pecan Pie Brownies

  • Prepare the brownie batter according to package directions.
  • Combine the pecan pie filling in a saucepan until the sauce thickens, then stir in chopped pecans.
  • Bake the brownies for 15 minutes, then add the pecan pie filling on top. Continue baking for an additional 30 minutes, or until set.

Tips for the Best Brownies

Here are a few tips for making the best pecan pie brownies.

  • Pre-bake the brownies. Partially baking the brownies before adding the topping does a few things – it ensures that the brownies get fully cooked and it helps to create defined layers between the brownies and the topping.
  • Don’t overbake. That said, you do still want chewy, fudgy brownies! Only bake for half the time before adding the pecan pie filling. Note that the pecan pie topping should be mostly set but still a bit jiggly when removing it from the oven.
  • Stir often. When you’re preparing the pecan filling, you do want to stir it frequently to prevent it from sticking to the bottom of the pan.
  • Toast the pecans. For extra flavor, feel free to toast the pecans separately prior to making the filling (or just use toasted pecans).
  • Cool before serving. It’s best to let these brownies cool to room temperature before slicing and serving, so that the topping has time to set. Otherwise it will just slide all over when you try to slice it.

Serving and Storage

These brownies by themselves are fantastic, but serving them warm right out of the oven with a scoop of vanilla ice cream just takes these over the top! This is one of those Thanksgiving desserts that everyone loves!

Store Pecan pie brownies in an airtight container in the fridge. They will last for 5-7 days.

Thank you so much for sharing! It looks delicious! I want to try something new for my husband and this is perfect

  2. This recipe combines two of my favorites, brownies and nuts. I am considering using Almonds. Just like Rocky Road ice cream is chocolate and almonds. I’m sure any nuts will work just fine. Planning on making these this week. Thanks for sharing. **

  3. I noticed under tips: Said to toast the Pecans. Under that said add Sea Salt. To what ? How much ? The full instructions does not mention Sea Salt. This looks delicious and easy. Thanks !!!

    1. I always use butter roasted and salted pecans in my pecan pie. Will do the same with this recipe.
