Copycat Texas Roadhouse Rolls

Texas Roadhouse is one of our favorite restaurants and, honestly, half of the reason we go is for the warm rolls and honey cinnamon butter you get before ordering. And I’m pretty sure we’re not the only ones!

If you ever find yourself craving those same rolls without needing to dine out, this copycat Texas Roadhouse rolls recipe is for you!

These rolls are soft, dense, and buttery, just like the ones at the restaurant. These rolls are heavenly served with cinnamon honey butter. Both are good on their own but together, they’re a match made in heaven!

Why You’ll Love This Texas Roadhouse Rolls Recipe

Honestly, there’s a LOT to love about this copycat recipe…

  • Soft and buttery. The texture of these rolls is incredibly soft and butter is added at various stages to ensure a rich, buttery flavor.
  • Just like Texas Roadhouse. This recipe is as close as you can get to the rolls from Texas Roadhouse, without actually going to Texas Roadhouse.
  • Easy to make. These rolls do take a bit of time to make, as there is yeast involved, but the actual hands-on process is quick and easy.

What You’ll Need

It may surprise you that the famous Texas Roadhouse rolls are made with just a handful of ingredients – most of them pantry staples!

  • Yeast – You’ll need active dry yeast – make sure it’s not expired.
  • Water – Warm, heated to about 110 degrees. Do not use hot water, as it will kill the yeast.
  • Milk
  • Butter – Melted, adds a richness to the rolls.
  • Honey – Adds a rich sweetness to the rolls.
  • Sugar
  • Flour – Be sure to measure properly.
  • Salt
  • Egg – Gives the rolls their shape.

How To Make Texas Roadhouse Rolls

Here’s an overview of how to make these copycat Texas Roadhouse rolls at home. See the recipe card below for more detailed instructions.

  • Prepare the yeast. Heat the milk to 180 degrees then add the butter. Allow it to cool to about 120 degrees then add the yeast and a teaspoon of sugar. Let it sit for about 10 minutes until the yeast begins to bloom (foam).
  • Make the dough. Add the yeast mixture, salt, and a cup of flour to the bowl of a stand mixer. Combine with the battle attachment and add in an egg. Add the next two cups of flour, one cup at a time, then switch to the dough hook and add the remaining flour 1/2 cup at a time, mixing on low.
  • Knead the dough. Continue kneading the dough for 3 minutes.
  • Let rise. Smear the inside of a large bowl with the melted butter. Form the dough into a ball then place in the bowl. Turn to coat the dough with butter. Cover the bowl with a damp kitchen towel and place somewhere warm to rise. It should take about an hour for it to double in size.
  • Form the rolls. Transfer the risen dough to a lightly floured surface and roll to 1/2 inch thick. Fold the dough in half and seal the seams with a rolling pin. Cut into 3×3 inch pieces and place on a greased cookie sheet.
  • Let rise again. Let the rolls on the cookie sheet stand until they double in size, about 15-30 minutes.
  • Bake. Bake at 350 degrees for 12 minutes, until the rolls are lightly browned.
  • Brush with butter. Once the rolls have cooled, brush them with melted butter.

Tips for Success

Here are a few things to keep in mind to help you make the best copycat Texas Roadhouse rolls.

  • Make sure the yeast activates. Yeast does expire. If it doesn’t bloom during the first step, you’ll want to toss it and start again. If the yeast doesn’t activate, the rolls won’t rise.
  • Check the water temperature. You want water that’s just the right temperature, as it can kill the yeast if it’s too hot and not activate the yeast if it’s too cold.
  • Place the dough in a warm space. For the dough to rise, it needs to be somewhere warm. If your kitchen is too cold, consider preheating the oven to 200F (or whatever the lowest temperature possible is) then turn it off and place the dough inside.
