A stack of Twix cookies

Cookie recipes are one of my favorite things to share on this blog, especially as we head into baking season, and these Twix cookies are one of my all-time favorite candy bars. With a buttery shortbread base, gooey caramel, and rich chocolate, they are purely irresistible.

If you like caramel desserts, I recommend you try the Rolo Stuffed Salted Caramel Cookies or the Caramel Apple Dump Cake.

Why You’ll Love This Twix Cookies Recipe

Here are a few reasons why we can’t get enough of these cookies.

  • They taste like Twix! As you can guess from the name of the recipe, these cookies taste exactly like a Twix candy bar. Not only that but they have a very similar texture too with a melt-in-your-mouth cookie base, gooey caramel, and chocolate topping.
  • Easy-to-follow recipe. This recipe is surprisingly easy. The cookie base is made with just a few ingredients and comes together quickly. I used Kraft caramels and melting chocolate to keep the rest of the recipe quick & easy too!
  • Great for the holidays (and anytime). Twix cookies make a nice variation on all the typical holiday cookies and they stay fresh for a few days, which makes them great for cookie platters. But we definitely make these year-round!

What You’ll Need

Each layer of this recipe is made with just a few simple ingredients. Scroll down to the recipe card below for measurements.

Cookie:

  • Unsalted butter – Softened.
  • Powdered sugar – Sweetens the cookie while offering a melt-in-your-mouth texture.
  • Vanilla
  • Flour
  • Salt

Caramel layer:

  • Caramels – I used the Kraft caramels for the caramel sauce.
  • Evaporated milk – To give the melted caramels the right texture.

Chocolate layer:

  • Melting chocolate – Be sure to use a quality brand. I personally love the Ghiradelli brand. I used milk chocolate chips but dark chocolate would also work for these cookies.

How To Make Twix Cookies

Here’s how to make these irresistible cookies. You can find the printable version of the instructions in the recipe card below.

  • Make the dough. Combine the butter and sugar then add in the vanilla, flour, and salt. Mix until well combined.
  • Cut out the cookies. Roll the dough to 1/2 inch thick on a floured surface. Cut out the cookies with a round cookie cutter. Place on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  • Bake. Bake the cookies for 14-16 minutes. Let cool completely.
  • Make the caramel mixture. Melt the caramels and evaporated milk. Spread on the surface of each cookie. Let set.
  • Add the chocolate. Melt the chocolate in 30-second intervals. Spread over the cooled caramel.
  • Enjoy. Let the chocolate set before serving. Enjoy!

Tips for Success

Here are a few tips for making these cookies.

  • Don’t overwork the dough. The dough comes together pretty quickly and easy so avoid overmixing, as well as overworking it when you roll it out.
  • Do I need to chill the dough? I didn’t find chilling the dough to be a necessary step in this recipe as the cookies didn’t spread much in the oven.
  • Push the edges in. If the cookies do spread more than you desire, you can use a knife to push the edges back in as soon as they come out of the oven.
  • Let each layer cool. Let the cookies cool before adding the caramel and the caramel cool before adding the chocolate. This ensures that each layer is separate and able to set.

Proper Storage

  • Counter. The cookies will stay fresh at room temperature for about 4-5 days. Just keep them in an airtight container.
  • Freezer. Cool the cookies completely and fully wrap it in plastic wrap, tightly. After that wrap in aluminum foil. Freeze for up to 2-3 months. Defrost before serving.
