Cheeseburger Sliders With Hawaiian Rolls

Hawaiian rolls are a great way to make delicious sliders. I highly recommend trying this recipe in place of a traditional burger. The oven does all of the cooking for you (except for a quick sautee of onions), saving you time in the kitchen! They are just as juicy and tasty. As a parent, this recipe makes dinnertime go so much smoother when you have to worry about homework and prepping for the next school day.

What I love about these cheeseburger sliders is that you can make them your own! Everyone knows what it’s like when you are cooking for a picky eater. If there are ingredients they don’t enjoy – substitute them or leave them out! You will still get to enjoy a yummy slider. Plus, there’s no harm in adding your favorite condiments to your plate.

What You’ll Need

Hawaiian bun sliders are an easy and inexpensive meal to make on a busy night or even as a quick party appetizer! There are minimal ingredients required and I almost always have most of these items on hand.

Ingredients to make cheeseburger sliders.
  • Ground Beef: I like to use lean ground beef. Since it is going to be baked in the oven, too much fat will produce a lot of grease and cause a mess.
  • Salt
  • Pepper
  • Garlic Powder
  • Butter: This is used to sautee the onions.
  • Onion: Diced yellow onion is perfect for this recipe. Cooking them in butter before adding them to the cheeseburger sliders lends a sweet flavor.
  • American Cheese: Any brand of American cheese slices is perfect for that classic burger taste.
  • Hawaiian Rolls: Original Hawaiian rolls or slider rolls are best.
  • Melted Butter
  • Sesame Seeds: This is an option to garnish for the tops of the burger sliders.

How to Make Cheeseburger Sliders

Making cheeseburger sliders with Hawaiian rolls is easier than ever with this recipe! Apart from the onion, all of the cooking is done in your oven. It’s such a time-saver!

  • Prep the Oven and Baking Dish. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F. Grease a 9×13 baking dish with non-stick cooking spray.
  • Prepare the Beef. Combine ground beef, salt, pepper, and garlic powder in a large bowl and mix until well combined. Then, press evenly into the bottom of the baking dish.
  • Bake and Cool. Bake the ground beef for 20 minutes or until cooked, then drain any grease from the pan. Allow it to cool for 5 minutes before removing the beef patty from the pan and wiping it clean.
  • Cook Onions. While the beef is cooking, add the butter to a skillet at medium heat. Stir in the diced onions and cook until soft and slightly caramelized, about 5-7 minutes.
  • Assemble Sliders. Slice the rolls horizontally and place the bottom half into the baking dish. Layer with 6 slices of cheese, cooked beef, sauteed onions, and remaining cheese. Cover the top half of the rolls.
  • Brush the Rolls. Melt the butter and brush the tops of the rolls evenly Garnish with sesame seeds, if desired.
  • Bake. Place the burger sliders in the oven and bake for 20-25 minutes. The cheese will be melted and the rolls will be golden brown.
  • Slice and Serve. Slice the sliders and serve with your favorite side dish and condiments!
