Can I Freeze Cherry Garcia Cookies?

After you have baked these cookies, you can move them to a freezer bag to freeze them. You can also freeze the cookie dough batter. Freeze the batter as a whole batch, but you can also freeze the cookies as dough balls. Scoop the cookie dough and then freeze it on a plate. Once you have it frozen, you can move the dough balls to the freezer.

Can I Use Fresh Cherries in These Cookies?

Fresh cherries would be hard to use in this recipe because of the pits however, you could take the pits out and make these cookies with fresh cherries. You can also use frozen cherries if you prefer them to the canned maraschino cherries.

Ingredients

  • Unsalted butter
  • Light brown sugar
  • Egg
  • Pure vanilla extract
  • Pure almond extract
  • Pink gel food
  • Flour
  • Baking soda
  • Kosher salt
  • Maraschino cherries
  • Semi sweet chocolate chips

How to make Cherry Chocolate Chip Cookies

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Prepare 2 cookies sheets with parchment paper.

Using a mixer, cream together the brown sugar and butter. Beat them together until smooth.

Next, add in the eggs, vanilla and almond extract.

Add the pink gel food coloring.

In a separate bowl, combine the dry ingredients.

Slowly mix the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients and mix well.

Gently fold in the cherries and the chocolate chips.

Use an ice cream scoop and scoop the cookie dough onto the cookie sheet.

Bake the cookies for 14-16 minutes. The cookies will be lightly golden brown.

Allow the cookies to cool completely

  • ½ C unsalted butter. Softened
  • ¾ C light brown sugar packed
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tsp pure vanilla extract
  • ¼ tsp pure almond extract
  • 2 drops of pink gel food
  • 1 ½ C flour
  • ½ tsp baking soda
  • ¼ tsp kosher salt
  • ¾ C chopped maraschino cherries drained and dried
  • ¾ C semi sweet chocolate chips

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees and line two cookie sheets with parchment paper
  • Using a standing mixer, cream together the butter and brown sugar until combined and smooth
  • Beat in the eggs, vanilla and almond extract until combined
  • Mix in the pink gel food coloring
  • In a medium bowl, combine the dry ingredients
  • Gradually mix in the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients until combined
  • Gently fold in the cherries and the chocolate chips
  • Use an ice cream scoop and scoop batter onto the cookie sheet
  • Bake in the oven for 14-16 minutes or until lightly golden brown
  • Allow to cool completely
